Hello all, I haven't pulled the trigger yet on my renegade purchase. I need just a bit more info. I am either getting the 212 combo or the 112. How much tone will I lose with the 112 combo vs the 212? The reason I am leaning towards the 112 is the weight issue.

Thoughts?

Steve

I totally understand the weight consideration. Which is why I prefer the head with cab.

I don't think you lose much by going with the 1x12. If you need to move more air, you can always hook it up to a 2x12 or 4x12 cab at some point.

I'm thinking the exact same thing. 212 combos are just beasts. If I really want more than a 112, then I'll get a head and cab. But I'll probably get the 112 combo.

I think most people will tell you that the 212 sounds a little better. I figure, if I gig with the amp, we've gotta keep stage volumes low and the amp will be mic'd That's 1 mic against 1 speaker, so it really doesn't matter if it's a 112, 212, 412 or whatever.

Also -- FYI -- I was told that GC is running a sale till the end of the month and is giving $150 off these amps. So, $1,099 becomes $949. Good luck!

I went with the head. I do like the 1x12 combo over the 2x12 for the weight and the controls on the front.

I've got the 212 and like the way the two different speakers compliment each other and make a more complex tone. I also feel the need to point out that the 212 isn't that much larger than the 112 if you check the dimensions. It is heavier by about 20 lbs if my memory is correct. The side handles make it quite easy to cart up and down stairs.

I also don't mind the top mounted controls at all. I thought I might. But I never give it a thought.

I don't think you can make a mistake regardless of what you choose. But you are wise to consider which would fit your lifestyle best.

It does depend on what you're using it for. I'd imagine the 112 would suit you just fine for a lot of circumstances. I have the head and 212 cabinet and it's loud and no where as easy to get around. Looking back I probably should have bought the combo...but I do love the look of a head and cab! :D

Everyone has basically covered it. You won't necessarily "lose tone" with a 1x12. The 2x12 will possibly sound a little more full, or have a little more low end depending on how you set your knobs, and what style you play. For a lot of people, the 1x12 is great, but some people like the extra volume and low end of the 2x12. It's really something where you'll have to go try both of them and see what fits you better.
