Hey guys,

On the renegade combo, the record out, what type of cable do you use? A regular mic cable? It seems like its the opposite end of the mic cable. Do you need something special?

I want to run the record out to the presonus firestudio but the end for the studio and the end of the record out are the same kind of jack?

Maybe im just not smart and missing something?

XLR/Mic cable. Instead of plugging in the mic, you plug it into the amp.

Works great!

This is an old thread, but perhaps better to reuse than create a new one...

I have been having a hard time finding something to let me know if I want to use the record out but not push speakers, do i need to add a dummy load, or is there some automatic switch to an internal load if the speakers are not plugged in?

You need to add an external dummy load. The Rebel 30 has what you are talking about, but not the Renegade.

To be honest, I don't understand the question. I don't know of any product that will tell you what you want to do... There's got to be something I'm missing.

I've recorded with my Renegade and played live, both with the direct line out and nothing between the amp and the board except for the cable.

Sorry if this doesn't help.

Len answered my question, which ultimately was, can i use the record out without also having a speaker or other load plugged in, and the answer is no. Apparently the Rebel 30 has a built in load so that it can record silently.

Shouldn't be too much of an issue, i have an attenuator i can use for the load, i wasn't really satisfied with the sound using the attenuator, but if the record out sounds great, then the attenuator can do the job of not blowing up the amp, which will be fine.

A secondary question- for those using the line out, does it live up to the hype of sounding as good or better than a miked cabinet for recording? I am comfortable with both, but want to be able to record silently at night for scratch track, practice, etc.

Thanks all
Dave

Just reread my post and it was poorly written, I meant that i could not find documentation that would tell me if there was a dummy load, not that the amp should tell me.

Yes, it really does sound great. I can't say that you couldn't get a better sound with the right mic in the right location on the speaker, but the direct out sounds so good and is so easy, I don't really care about micing.

Going direct, micing and mixing them together is another option if you have enough inputs on your board and a motivated sound guy.

I use the direct out and mic my cab when I play out live. Our sound man then pans them left and right. It sounds amazing!!!!

Hate to rehash on old thread, but I had a question. Is the DI active on the Renegade when the amp is in standby mode? Trying to figure out if I could use this amp in situations where minimal or no stage volume is allowed (church). I know I could do this with the Rebel 30 (which I'm also considering), but I don't know about the Renegade. Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I looked at several pages on this site (and a few other sites) and could not find an answer. Thanks for your nelp...

My guess is no. I think that when you go into standby the line out goes into standby as well. I am pretty sure that is what happens on the Tourmaster. I would just get the Rebel 30.

The DI is not active when the amp is in standby. The Rebel 30 has the additional "silent record" feature so that you can use an internal load in the amp, instead of the speaker. So to answer the question, no you can't play the Renegade without sound coming from the speaker, but you can do it on the Rebel 30.

Okay...thanks for your help (thanks to you too, Len...). That info makes my decision between those two amps much easier.

I've thought about getting the Rebel 30 for that reason, but no stocks the 2 X 12 combo version, which is what I would want, and I can't see getting an amp without hearing it first in person.
