Bought a Renegade 1x12 about 8 months ago and initially had noise issues that turned out to be the 6L6's that was addressed at an authorized service center. Still have an issue with the noisy reverb....wierd sound while it's decaying, kind of like a bad aftertaste. I've seen posts of similar reverb issues....don't know if they're all the same issue but wondered if anyone knows the root cause and if Egnater has a fix. Thanks in advance.

I don't know if there is a fix, but I think the problem, as I recall anyway, was that, because it is a digital reverb, if you send in too hot of a signal, it overloads. Try adjusting your levels a bit.

Yes, I'd seen that suggestion on prior posts but hoped there wasn't the final answer. I emailed Egnater and Nate said to replace V5 (effects send/return) tube so I'll try that this evening. Would think you should be able to use the reverb at any level and have it be OK. Thanks for the reply.

For now, Bruce has told me that he's working on a fix. But the solution for now seems to be keeping the channel volume below half. Turning it above half overloads the reverb circuit and creates the frazzled or distorted sound.

Do a search and you'll find a thread where I posted a recording of mine.

I did bring the channel masters down and it's much better....thanks.

I suppose another solution might be to just use an external reverb.

hbucker....found your clip and that's the exact same sound I'm getting out of mine. Gigged with it last night and kept the channel masters below half and it worked fine.

Same with mine... ;) I do hope Bruce finds a fix, though.

Glad I could help.

Did you have any volume issues as a result of having to keep the channels below half? Or was there still plenty of horsepower left with the master?

This is odd an odd issue to me. I'm not really sure if this is really an issue with the amp, or if it is just an issue people have with spring-like reverbs. To me, it's an absolutely great digital verb. I keep it down on the gain channel and wetter on clean. Smooths out the crunch sound and fills out the clean perfectly (to my taste). Sounds a lot like my EHX Holier Grail. The Grail has a gate feature though, which is smart. If you turn it on, it keeps the reverb wet, but the ringing nature of it gets clipped off by the gate. I think it makes a good compromise between the spring sound and the ringy sound a lot of people don't like.

Of course, it's another knob on the damn controls, so it probably wouldn't solve Bruce's problem. A gate that kicks in on lower verb volume and allows more signal to pass at higher verb settings might make more people happy. And it could use the same same pot that way. I'm not sure what component would be suited to this. Something like a transistor that has a threshold voltage (2ish Volts). If the signal falls below this, it would shunt. Then use resistors to control the current and the pot to adjust. It's already a digital verb, so putting an extra bjt in there probably wouldn't affect the tone of the reverb.

For me it isn't about it sounding bad. It sounds really great... until the channel volume gets turned up. Then it gets the frazzled sound I posted.

As long as I keep the channel volume less that half the reverb sounds fine, and there's plenty of volume. This amp fills a room better than any amp I've owned. Unfortunately I have a new noise that I'll post on a new thread. I love the sounds out of this amp but am getting tired of the noise issues.

I have been hearing this on my Renegade recently. Was there a more permanent fix, or is it still "keep the channel masters down?"

I sent him and you an e-mail. Looking forward to a reply! In the meantime I will keep the channel master below 1/2.

Thanks!

Still waiting for an e-mail response from Bruce or Nate...

I seem to have this problem too so I'm lurking hoping for a solution.

Me too (from Nate only though). Will keep you informed (buckeyedog etc.).
