Guys,

this may be related to the 1x12 and 2x12 topic but....

Have a Renegade 1x12 right now and looking to either upgrade to the 2x12 renegade or maybe invest in some side handles for the 1x12. Can you order side handles. I like how the 2x12 has them (obviously its heavier) but i wish the 1x12 had them.

If i were to get black side handles and screw them in, is there anything i should worry about hitting if i drill them in? dont want to ruin the tolex or anything.

Has anyone ever done this? or should i not?

Also the sound with the 2x12 is it better and more full sounding?

Better? That's subjective and up to you. I don't imagine it will be different enough one way or the other to really change your life. The 212 does have two different kinds of speakers. I presume that will give you a slightly more dimensional tone and you get with the 112.

Keep in mind that the handles on the side of the 212 are slightly recessed. So you won't be able to use the exact handles without routing out some wood on the side of your amp.

I do find that the side handles on my 212 do a lot to offset any added weight issues with the larger combo.

thanks man .. yeah im looking at amp accessory sites and looking at the different handles they have. Thinking about finding ones that match. Will it dmaamge the tolex or anything? I presume you can just drill the screws right in and be set with it?

There are screw holes obviously. Also, over time there will probably be a mark left by the handle, but only noticeable if the handle is removed.

Good luck.

If it were me adding handles to the side of my cabinet, I would make sure and use T-nuts on the inside and a machine screw to fasten them, instead of just using wood screws into the cabinet. The T-nuts will hold much better, and won't ever strip out of the wood under normal use. You can get them at any Lowes, Ace hardware, etc.

this wont effect the sound at all will it? ill be honest im kinda nervous about it .. actualyl now that i think about it too .. the cover will not have slots for it.. so im not sure now.

It shouldn't affect the sound of it at all, but you make a good point. No use in putting handles on that you can't use.

I just use a little 29.99 dolly from Kmart to tote my amp around. Works great whether it's my 112, 212,PA or whatever...Except the drummers stuff...To heck with him....

The 212 comes with removable casters. Haven't used mine yet but that also is an advantage.

Keep in mind that adding handles will probably reduce the resale value of your amp, unless you do an A-1 pro job of installation. If that doesn't matter to you, fire away.

FWIW: Used 212's seem to go for slightly less than used 112's. So if you sell yours, you could probably hook up a 212 for virtually nothing out of pocket.

Personally, I found the weight of the 1x12 to be quite manageable without side handles. It is significantly lighter than some of my other brand "x" tube amp combos and sounds very good.

However, I do prefer the sound of the 2x12 and I should receive my NIB 2x12 replacement for my 1x12 NIB amp in about a week or so. It really wasn't an easy decision for me to swap out the 1x12 with a 2x12 for several reasons. However, at the end of the day....I prefer the fuller sound of the 2x12 and decided to deal with the added weight.

If I were to have kept the 1x12.......I would not have even considered "adding" side handles to it....FWIW.

I wouldn't do this personally. I think it would be bad if you ever wanted to sell it. I'd go the dolly route with the 2 X 12.
