Replacing Speakers??

Finally giving in to all the hype of scumback m75's. I currently have a Marshall 4x12 with vintage 30's wired in stereo(2 inputs, 8 ohm left & right stereo, 4ohm mono, 16ohm mono). So I'm guessing I did right in ordering the speakers in 16 ohm? I'm wondering if it's as simple as taking off the back and unhooking and unscrewing the old speakers, or is there soldering or something involved? I've never done anything like this so any help is appreciated!

1. unscrew the jack plate first.
2. take off the back. If it won't come off, take off one of the handles and hit the back with a rubber mallet
3. Are the wires soldered to the speakers? if yes, then, yes, you'll need to solder. If not, they are probably just connected with little tabs. If the replacements have tabs that have been soldered, you meet need a soldering iron and a solder pump to remove the old stuff. This allows the clip to fit the tab.

4. BE CAREFUL removing the speakers. Celestion front gaskets can stick to the front baffle and rip off when you remove the speaker. Make SURE to be patient and careful with a putty knoife or something similar.

That's about it.

BE PATIENT. If you start getting upset, put the tools down and come back to it after you relax. Do this in a well-lit room too!

Great advice. I'll also add that you shouldn't over tighten the speaker or you can bend the frame.

Thanks guys, sounds easy enough, I'm expecting it to be the little tab things. If not I'll be taking it somewhere to have it done.

They are the little tab things on the Scumbacks.

I would strongly suggest/advise that you get some 14-16 gauge copper stranded zip wire (aka automotive/lamp cord) and rewire that cab as the bigger wire lets more signal come through than the 22 gauge Marshall puts in those cabs. Every time I've replaced that it's been a big improvement in the tone vs the original speaker wiring.

If you need that wire, let me know and I'll send along a length of it with your order.
