Couple of weeks ago, we saw The Andy Timmons Band on the 1st date of their current European tour. They were playing my favorite club in Belgium, The Spirit Of 66.

Andy had a nice setup with 2 Mesa heads hooked up to 4 Mesa 2x12s, a small rack with a GCX and a big pedalboard with BB Preamp, Fulltone Octafuzz, Budda Wah, 2 EHX Electric Memory man pedals... I think there were some issue with the rig as he was not using the Stiletto and only running the Lonestar head. However, this had no impact on his tone whatsoever.

I had seen him 3 days before at the Frankfurt Musikmesse and the guys were loud. Well, they were incredibly loud in this club but the sound was really great. Much to my surprise, AT used his OLD Ibanez signature for the entire show. His tone was amazing, syrupy fat like on the records. The BB saw a lot of use and he was switching pickups like a madman at times. They played a sort of best of setlist with a selection of songs from his entire back catalogue. The ease he plays with is stunning and I love his melodies a lot. I was kinda surprised though that a lot of stuff they played was more or less note-for-note with the albums, not much jamming going on although they stretched some songs. His backup band was rock solid and laid down the groove perfectly. During the encores I was surprised to hear them play Little Wing and Andy singing it, it was great and he really has a cool voice.

After the gig I bought his new live DVD which was recorded a couple of years ago. Basically it has the entire Resolution album on it and it is highly recommended for all Timmons fans!!! Great quality and the band is in top form playing their hometown.

Last Wednesday, I was lucky to see Michael Landau again, same club as Timmons. Like last year, he had Gary Novak on drums but this times he had Chris Chaney (ex Jane's Addiction) on bass. The first set was good, although it seemed that Landau had some problems really getting into it, he was having fun. I'm Buzzed, That Day, Underwear, he again played songs from his own albums mixed with Raging Honkies stuff. The 2nd set took off and it was a rollercoaster. The playing was amazing and the wall of sound these guys were pulling off was WOW. Mike went into this BIG feedback thing a couple of times that was stunning. The setlist was more or less like last year, he played 1 new song and they also played Born In The Rain this year. Big surprise during the encore as Mike's wife Karen was invited on stage and they unleashed a rocking version of her Stolen Fish song Wacko, fun fun stuff.

Last year I was totally flabbergasted about his gig in Belgium and this one was nearly as good. Still very inspiring stuff and again prove why I love this guy so much. Afterwards I was lucky to get to chat a bit with Mike and he told me that he was surprised to see so many people show up on a weekday and will be coming back to Europe again  I will see him again next Friday in Cologne

I'm jealous!

There is something special about that old Timmons guitar. Everything I see of him, that guitar just sounds better than the newer model and he really rips on it.

what a guitar banquet!

i've sorta been in a guitar playing funk...no time, when i do pick it up i'm playing super lame...

but my old college roomate whom i haven't seen in almost 10 years came by last night and we jammed a little bit, and it was really fun and reminded me of old times and why i started playing in the first place.

because it's fun and brings me joy.

I was at the set in Zoetermeer Holland - place called "De Boerderij"
Regarding the band: awsome - and the band clearly enjoyed playing.
Gary Novak is an animal!
Gear: OD100, Fenderstrat HSS, and Suhr - did see a Lexicon 19" module and some pedals
What really appealed was the dynamics and the interplay - The strat had a bit more raw sound/whereas the Suhr was abit clearer.
