I'm wondering what a Wizard mod might sound like.

I kind of miss my Wizards too, I should stay away from the Wizard forum actually, before I convince myself that I NEED another one.

Okay it appears the amp wasn't modded. Supposedly just a fan was put in. (I dont have the amp yet) :(

Rick says he didnt mod the amp. Or any Marshall since 1990. Boy I would love to play a Rick modded Marshall. Guess this isnt it! :(

I've seen a few Rick modded Marshalls on Ebay over the years. All of them had his signature and date of the mod on the back chassis. They all ranged from 1986-1990.

Hey I got a Rick modded Wizard.
Tell us more.

Well more gain and a different output transformer C to A. So it still may have everything else C spec maybe a hybrid. Two more leds, silent channel switching. Pretty much the same as some folks already have its kind of like right to the hilt before you go MC2. Pretty chunky tone with the right speaker combo. Add some old 65's and you can get some descent Master of Puppets tones. I am trying now for the 70's hard rock thing. Thats my main interest at the moment. Nailed all the heavy tones I like it's time to move on. I get bored fast of that kind of thing, but I got to have it at the same time. I like more an Angus lead tone with extreme dynamics to touch. It's amazing how these amps adapt to what your playing it's like no matter what you play it sounds right. I never played amps like that it's like Rick tuned it perfectly for anything rock n roll- metal. I can literally play a Slayer riff and then go to James gang and have it sound right. It's not exact but it will sound great and to me that is good enough. The guy knows tone.

Rocker is Rick still using the A transformers?

I think I have the same mod in my MC100.
There are 4 LEDs total. (clean boost, lead channel, lead boost 1, lead boost 2)
The lead boost 2 is on the treble knob. The gain-staging is basically that from an MCII, but in an MC chassis. It doesn't have the other features of an MCII (countour knob, rhythm master).
Mine has an A transformer and I'm about to talk to Rick about getting the C. The C is what I originally heard when I demo'd the amp a couple of years ago. I thought I'd try something different when I ordered it and got the A. From what I remember, I prefer the C. My MC50 has a C transformer and it is just about the most perfect sounding and feeling lead tone I've ever heard. I wouldn't change a thing about it.
I also own Todd's '93 Metal 100. I used to watch his video of that amp ALL of the time. I had been looking for a Metal and was really fortunate to be able to buy the exact Metal that I'd been lusting after for months. It's really not all that different sounding from my MC100. It just sounds a little less zingy and a little more worn in. The depth control is really nice, though. I would love to have that control on my MC100.

Me too the C was the first one I heard ( not this one) I bought one for my brother. That thing is insane goose bumps for sure. Long time Metal user though and love them. I had to adapt to the A I was so used to the C I've come a long way with it, and doubt I would go back it can sound so massive. It covers more ground for me. I would love to have both and probably will some day.
