Ive gone on a Van Halen guitar binge, the newest one is so bright on harmonics and very deep on low E and A.

Does wood make that big of a difference, this is unplugged.

I never gave it a lot of thought I was told the speaker and mic position make the tone.

So which is it ?

I'm only semitardy on this thread

how does it sound amplified? for solidbody electric guitars, amplified sound is going to matter more.

To really hear a solidbody electric guitar's "natural" tone, I recommend a very neutral clean amp. Assuming the guitar is setup, intonated, fresh strings, etc. look for dead spots, and listen to the tone of each string at each fret; if it's even and consistent, no dead spots, you have to set your effects and amps for that guitar.

I usually have to adjust my amps for different guitars and what I'm hearing at that moment.

IMO
