can anyone shed some light? :D

im a huge HUGE fan of Tim Kelly (RIP) and his playing back in the day. he was one of the very few people that was endorsed by robin, and ever since i started playing, ive always dreamed of owning one.

only problem is, i have a rule: i dont buy guitars i havent first played.

im in the process of getting together a M-II ESP maple neck/fretboard that i fell in love with once i had the chance to tear one up. but the all black finish for so much money (for me anyway) is a real bad turnoff, and ill also have to re-pup it to my tastes. one of the few guitars ive always loved are the robins that ive heard about and looked at on their website since i can remember.

they arent really well known and are custom made to order. there isnt alot flying around egay or here on the forum, nor can i just go play one.

has anyone played one? anyone care to share opinions? im debating on waiting on the ESP and going further with a robin medley custom ordered to my specs... though im a little nervous about it since its impossible to play one before buying one. also im sure there is a waiting list.

any info on how it plays or the comparison of the tow guitars would be greatly appreciated

I had a Medley. Great guitar and regret selling it. I don't know how many options they offer or how the Medleys may vary but mine had a thin neck that was very Jackson, huge frets and some of the best tiger maple I've seen. High quality build. The only problem I had with it was it was a flat top with no comfort curve so it wore on the inside of my forearm a bit after playing a full set with it. Hope this helps. :)

Have a friend who has had 3 of them, they are great guitars, but one of them had a really flamed neck that was beautiful, but would not stay where you set it. It was very funny about the conditions you played in, and would change a lot in the first 2 sets. we have a lot of humidity down here and it seemed to affect that one way more than was normal. He ended up selling it. He hated to, but could not keep it like that. see if the seller would shoot you a pic that sights down the neck if you have to buy without playing it, just to be safe ;)

I have a Medley and a Tedley. If you have a chance to get one definitely do it. I'll never sell mine.

You should shoot a quick video of them using your new module.

I have two Robin Raiders ( think Reverse bodied Medley). I absolutely love the necks, they're not as thin the late 80's Ibanez Wizards, but they're pretty thin. Jumbo frets, highly figured birdseye or curly maple necks in most cases, swamp ash bodies. Kahler Steeler floyd rose type tremolos... Great, great guitars.

I have a Tedley and it is awesome. The absolute best shredder/Floyd guitar I have ever owned. Robins are immaculately built, seriously one of the highest quality guitars out there.

Mine is contoured on the back and at the neck heel. It is extremely comfortable to play.

wow, amazing.

what did you put in the neck of that one?

thanks for all the replies guys much appreciated =]

i love a thin neck. but i grew up playing on thick wolfgangs. the build quality being top notch makes me feel alot more comfortable about buying one for sure. and the neck profile being pretty thin is nice.

i wonder what kind of truss rod layout they use? im sure they arent that suseptable to weather with the imporved truss rod technology that exists today compred to 1989. although, the older the guitar the more interested i am :D

i feel that alot of people really dont talk alot about them. all you hear about is ESP, caparison, suhr, and gibsons. allgreat guitars, but to me i think a robin guitar would be like a secret weapon of them all. im glad so far everyone has great things to say about them. but i sitll have this etchy-ness about purchasing a guitar that i havent played

im going to think about it for a while. ill be posting a NGD post eventually... might be a surprise as to which one i choose :D :D

They're built in Houston where the humidity is like 200%, you won't have a problem with the neck, unless you leave it in the trunk of your car year round.
