I see you have a Fulltone OCD and an xotic RC booster. Just curious as to which modules use generally put those in front of, and what kind of tonal changes you are going for when you decide to switch them in.

Thanks
Rick

Hey Rick.

To be honest, when I'm gigging out with my band, since I'm the lead singer as well, I don't use any dirt boxes. I just use channels 1-4 on my Mod50, set as clean, light crunch, heavy drive, lead.

The OCD and RC booster are primarily for when I'm doing a small jam or gig with my RM20. In that case, the OCD is being run into the DLX module, so I can have american cleans, and then my choice of american or british style dirt. The RC Boost is used primarily as a volume clean boost for solos, I run it AFTER the OCD.

Yeah, for me... singing lead AND stepping on pedals... harder than it seems.

I barely have enough time to step on my chorus and phaser or wah!!!! They get neglected.

Matt (EWSEthan) is the effects pedal pusher in the band. He takes care of 90% of the bells and whistles.

Yeah, I can see that. I only do backing vox, so I have time to wank off with pedals and what not

Your comment reminds me of the comments Jerry Cantrell made on that Premier Guitar interview - since he is doing so much singing on the new tour, he has his guitar tech running around on stage switching his effects in and out at the right times!

If I could convince one of my friends to come to every show and do that, I would TOTALLY have someone else do switching for me. Then I could run around the stage like axl rose on crack.

Oddly enough, no one seems to want to do this for me.

Yeah, Im the one doing all the stepping and it is busy work! And my rig is tiny compared to what other pedal dancers are doing so god bless them.

That said, our last few shows I have been ignoring most of my pedals except for channel switching as well. it really frees me up to put on a high energy show, which Im thinking lately is much more important to the audience than effects. YMMV.

Matt, is the EVH Phaser an analog phaser? I have a phase 90 with script mod and not if that is or not.

I am in a similar position....ditching the rack and going bare bones.....some pedals and the head. Can't decide between a flanger or chorus or which delay.

How do your cleans sound and your leads without any effects such as delay or chorus....when going dry?

I use the series loop because I always find the amp and effects sound much better this way in the mod 50.

I am thinking of the Boss DD-20 but it is digital and nothing compares to thde beauty of analog.

Sounds like you need a midi footpedal board and a pedal switcher...that way you hit one button, and it turn on pedals and controls the Mod50 all with one stomp of a button. :)

Then you could have the ease of hitting a button...and use your pedals at a gig! Stop resisting MIDI! :)

I use midi now because I use a rack but can the midi turn on combinations of pedals? Say I have one chorus pedal and one delay pedal. Some songs I might only want to use the delay and no chorus. Either way, I am trying to go as dry as possible, if I can use delay and nothing else, great!

With a Ground Control Pro and a midi switcher like a Axess Electronics GRX4 or VL GCX switcher...or RJM switcher...you can do this.

So Program change 1 could be Module 1A on the Mod50, with delay on loop one of your switcher, and BB preamp on loop two of your switcher....PC could be Module 2B on the Mod50, with no effects on....etc

So you hit one button..and it turns on / off the pedals you want...and changes channels on the amp. Add to that using instant access switches on a Ground Control Pro w/ Program change buttons...you get the best of both worlds....program changes to change "scenes"....but lets say you want a bit of delay at this point in the song w/o changing the "scene"...you could hit the delay instant access button to turn on / off the effect at will.

I just want simple now....head, wah, delay and maybe a boost like the sparkle drive. :D

This is the kind of setup that I want to use, I just keep putting it off cause I cant stop buying guitars.

EDIT: Speaking of which, stay tuned for my sexy Warmoth baritone project. \:D/

bleh...that's soo...boring!!! hahahah :)

On another note...i could live forever w/ my BB Preamp, EH Small Stone, FoxRox Electronics Octron, Voodoo Labs Microvibe and Analog Chorus, and an Eventide TimeFactor...if I didn't have my rack...or my TC G System.

For a small gigging rig...my personaly setup is gonna be the G System, w/ a BB Preamp, VL Analog Chorus, VL Proctavia, EVH Phase 90 or EH Small Stone, and maybe a VL Sparkle Drive.

My goto dirt pedal is by far the BB. I love my SD, but I've been using it less and less as of late. Using it w/ my Mod50 setup though....just a wah and a SD. Probably will throw a analog echo pedal of some kind there for some slapback. The G System setup will be more for my Mod100 setup...or if I use the Mod50 for "non-blues stuff."
