Hello everybody, I have the opportunity to pick one of these. Which one do you think is the best for a highgain application in series between a preamp (Rocktron Piranha an Intellifex and a Mesa Fifty/Fifty ?

I find the ISP stuff to work really well with Noise reduction. I would even recommend you look at the ISP G-string pedal if you want pedal format. Does between guitar and preamp and in the loop.

Good luck

Thank you for your answer ! Actually the G-string is a bit out of my budget! It's either a Hush super C or the Decimator, the seller offers them at the same price, but I can't try them out before I pull the trigger.

I’ve been using an original Decimator for years and it’s always worked great.

Never used a hush, so I can’t comment on it, but I’ve used a lot of different noise suppressors over the years and the Decimator gets the job done perefectly for me.

They work a bit differently. The Hush is more of a gate type where the ISP isnt. You can get the ISP to cut like a gate at extreme settings but the main difference is the ISP will filter out the noise in your underlying guitar signal where the hush will just cut the noise when you stop playing. I dont have much experience with any of the newer hush stuff and the tech I am talking about is many years old. I am sure they probably have upped the tech in the Hush, so that may not be true with newer units. I used to use a hush and went to ISP rack and pedal units. Hope that helps.

Decimator is definitely the one to go for in my experience.

Were you using it in the loop or right in front of the amp ?

Thank you very much for your comment. I used to think that the Hush super c with the two knobs of gate and hush is the one who filters out the noise in the underlying guitar signal in addition to gating hum and hiss once we stop playing

I used to have the HUSH unit a long time ago. I like a hard gate. Replaced it with an alesis 3630,but that was when I was digging rack gear.
The decimator is a better unit IMO. More transparent. I am a gate freak. I love a silent, tight guitar rig...wish my old lady was as silent and tight as my guitar setup.

Hahaha you got me off guard, I was reading religiously what you think of ISP and how you like a silent rig until that part where you wish your lady was as silent as your rig, I laughed hard my parrot got confused and almost fell off

I have used just about every noise gate on the market. The ISP seems to work the best for me, and alters the core tone the least of any unit I have tried. I mainly use a gate as the first thing in the FX loop chain. This allows me to eliminate the amp hiss when I am not playing, while allowing me to play long sustained notes without issue.

The Piranha has the hush built in..are you not using it?

Mine works great..my rack is Piranha>Quadraverb2>BBE>Marshall 9000 tube power amp...no issues at all with noise...

Just to add..I have the Decimator pedal and like it a bit more...as stated by other it does seem a bit less aggressive and more transparent/natural sounding.

Indeed the Piranha has a Hush, but I thought I would leave it unused and to let the tone as pure as possible then add a dedicated noisegate after the Piranha and the Intellifex to avoid altering the quality of delay and chorus.

Yea the hush is in piranha why add an extra one?
That's true, actually the intellifex has the Hush too, I just thought I can leave both units work without their onboard Hush and add a dedicated external noisegate
