Rough mix/master from the studio. Totally raw tracks.

Some of you guys may recognize these songs when I posted them in their rough demo form.

There is no EQ on any of the drums or guitar (except the kick). Things sound kinda bass-heavy, and a tad muddy for now. There isn't much editing done on the guitars, just real basic stuff, and they still have to be cleaned up. The drums in "Home" are about 80% edited. Still gotta fix some of the dynamics so that it doesn't sounds so robotic. Only the kick is edited in "All Fall Down." Everything is very, very raw right now....like....we just tracked and bounced this about...2 hours ago. Still need to write and track some of the synth/strings/piano parts, so it'll sound like some things are missing. Oh...and there isn't even any bass on these tracks yet.

BTW the kick is stacked...but it's stacked with a sample of our drummer's kick drum with a different mic position. That is all his kick, at the moment.

Guitars were as follows:
PRS Single Cut
2 PRS Custom 22's
Takamine Acoustic

Cab: Bogner Ubercab, V30 miced with TLM103 and SM57 through a Neve Portico into Pro Tools.

Amps:
Left is Bogner Uberschall and SLO100, right is Dual Recto 3 channel and SLO100. The Single Cut was used through the Uber and the Mesa. It was used for all overdubs and leads (Mesa and Soldano respectively). The Custom 22's were used through the SLO. Rhythms are double tracked on each side. Cleans were the CU22's (sometimes tapped) through the Mesa's clean channel.

All Fall Down
Home

Opinions welcome (and wanted!), any questions, just ask!

Oh, and some eye candy:

Sounds great mate!

It will sound nice with a "clicky" bass in there, but then again thats just my thoughts.

I can't wait till my recording kit comes december 1st!!

Our bassist definitely has a good amount of grind and click to his bass, between his Stingrays and driven SVT-2 Pro. Just tracked the bass Sunday night, and it's sitting with the guitars very nicely.

I think there is a lot to work on, but it sounds pretty good.

You're telling me, man. After we tracked the bass, we sat down and started editing and eqing shit. Vocals are this weekend, and I'd like to have a decent mix for Ben when he goes in there. Just got laid off today, so I suppose I have a lot of time while I find a new job, eh?

Sounds good man. What I would do is go in and snip those choppy parts and remove all that in between noise, but thats just little editing stuff. As far as tones and songs I dig it. Look forward to hearing it with vocals.

Thanks dude. Yea, that's what we were doing the other night. Cleaning up every single track in each song is a bit of a pain. We're talking 3 mics and a DI from the head on each rhythm track x4. 3 mics and a DI for the bass tracks, not to mention the drums, leads, cleans, acoustic....oh yea. If I didn't enjoy it so much, I'd be ripping my hair out. Should have completed songs in about a week and a half.

That sucks! The shit is really tough around here now. I work at 3 different places now & can't even make as much income as I used to make with 2.

I got laid off from a very very large company that was supposed to ride clean through this situation.... Nope. Not to mention I heard that a large shipping company (not FedEx, USPS) will be laying off all employees in the Chicagoland area that have been there less then a year. Getting a bit too intense for my tastes.

It's been slow for a while, but right now it's dead slow.

That said there are still jobs to be had out there, if you search you'll find it.

My burger flippin arm's feeling nice and strong these days

Sounds good bro. I think once you get it cleaned up, it'll sound...cleaner!
That's alot tracks to screw with. I like paying someone to do that :D
Sorry about the job too

Where did you get the synth sound at 1:45?

Old thread, but I just saw this post today. It was Rob Papen Blue. I lost my preset when I had to reformat my computer, but it was a tweaked version of a stock sound, with time-synced delay added to it. I love the Rob Pappen stuff, although I cannot get albino to work on my Comp's. Best money the band has spent when it comes to synth stuff. There's no substitute for a good keyboard, but when you wanna do your synth shit totally in the box, Rob Pappen Blue, Albino and Predator are where it's at, IMHO. I was turned on to it by a dude on Andy Sneap's forum. All of our synths are either Rob Pappen or East West Symphonic Orchestra with tweaks done to it. The piano is some stock Reason Piano.

Thanks, man. Haven't heard that before!

I really hope the first one makes it on the album.

Here's the finished track. These are just demos for the album, so it's not 100% in terms of harmonies and whatnot:

All Fall Down rough

Vocal is not centered, check the panning.

It's either that or because of right & left guitar track unevenness the mastering compressor threw it on one side.
It needs to get fixed, I found it disturbing actually.
Overall pretty decent sound!

I was hoping for an easier answer. Crap, I'm too old to mess with that shit. It's a great sounding synth!

Totally not centered, what you're hearing are the mults. They were panned to check the pitch, and were never put back. I'd get back into the studio and fix it but the place got flooded when a pipe burst in the wall.

Control room and half of the live room are GONE. All the gear was saved, but they're out for a month. Plus side, is the insurance covered it, and they're getting a new lounge, control room, live room and kitchen. The water line was literally 6 inches from a vintage 70's Marshall cab...Glad it's ok, that thing sounded amazing.

Still sucks though. Happened THE day i was gonna head over and back up the most current sessions on my external. How's that for a kick in the balls?

Yea, with the synth thing, you could just run a keyboard midi output into your DAW and trigger the synths that way. I prefer doing that whenever possible. We have a little USB keyboard at the practice space that we use. As a side note: All Fall Down was written before we got the Rob Papen stuff, and all of the synths besides the strings and piano were stock presets in Fruity Loops. They were some dance/techno stuff that just happened to sync up really well with my tapping part. Got lucky on that one.

If you want copies....lemme know. Not that I condone piracy at all....
