So...I have the SL2xXx and Was wondering what others were running with it as a clean channel. I have the Vox, and although i do like it, the contrast between the 2 is night and day- The Vox is much darker and actually harder to dial in a tone to run with the XXX- It almost sounds like a blanket on compared to the openness of the X? Whattca guys runnin with?

I'm running a VX for my cleans and grit, and I don't consider it dark at all. Mine borders on too bright sometimes. What are your settings?

Here's nearly the sound I'm getting out of it (intro)

Wow Wade. Too dark? I use the VX in my Mod 50 with the SL2x and I love it. VX ch A is very bright. Ch B gets darker--really warm when the gain is up but I like how it works with the SL2x. What tubes are you running in the module? JP 5751 is the ticket for V1.

FWIW, I think the VX is the ticket for cleaner tones with a higher gain Marshally mod.

MotorCity:

#1. Try the VX with a 5751 in V1. Makes it alot chimier, gives more clean headroom, adds some sparkle.

#2. The BMAN matches up very well. Even better with a slight tweak. ;)

This may be the key. I have a 5751 in V1. I used it specifically so that I could get a lot of clean headroom on Channel A, and I never really thought about if it would change the tone.

I had always wanted an AC30, and JCM 800 in 1 amp, and the VX and SL2 or SL2x seems to be the exact ticket.

#2 WITH a 5751 is the best man!!! Nick modded my BMAN a bit to make it sit better w/ a SL2xXx and I am LOVING it!!

VX dark...I don't get that either. But a 5751 in the VX helps a lot too!! :)

Well...For the Vox The settings are (Clock language : ) Bass 2, mids, 1:30, treb 12:30. Channel A Gain at 10 (o'clock) Master at 2. I never use the Bright or bass switches with this one. The Density pot is also Off, Effects off,Presence is at 8:30. Master Volume is all the way up (Channel B gain is at noon, and the volume is at noon). Maybe the bass needs scooped out?? I do have some long plate Ei's ecc83's I could try. I belive V1 makes the biggest tonal shift E

I normally run bass at noon, mids at 1:30, treble at 2:30, and bright switch on 1 to get a bit more jangle at times.

I've had a Mod 50 with a stock BMan/Sl2x for a month or so. I feel the same way as you about the "B" channel on the Bman when I eq the clean channel to my liking. I haven't starting modding anything yet.

But, what I've done is turn down the gain on the Bman "B". I use a BB Preamp to make up the gain, boost the volume, tweak the eq and open up the sound. For me, it seems to allow a smoother transition from the BMan's B to the SLX's A.

I think the Vox is incredibly bright and chimey. Bass at 2 o'clock ... that's a lot of low end. I run mine down around 11. Which one of your Pick Ups are your running and what kinda speakers? Even still, I have a regular 12AX7 in mine and it's not dark.
