I have a 5150 Blockletter kind of just sitting that never gets used since I prefer my 6505+ and I am looking for something new and tasty to try but as I log on to reverb, the prices of these amps are going crazy right now it looks like. I figured they would bump since EVH passed, but I don't pay attention to gear prices much anymore and now I don't know what to believe haha

What is the ACTUAL value of one of these things right now? Or should I just hold onto the thing now that the prices are going crazy.

Appreciate any insight.

they seem to go from anywhere from 1200$ to 1800$ right now. I have a 6505+ in sight going for 1000$ CAD , i guess prices will go up as well on these when all 5150 are going to be 2k$

Used gear prices are just going nuts. Feels like just the other day you could get one for $500 all day long
That's what I am saying. I paid $400 for my MINT 6505+ like 4 years ago lol

I have this desire to just try something totally different now but I can't help now but wonder what the ceiling is for these amps and if I should store it, or if I should just try and find a decent High Gain amp to trade for and never look back.

I didn't realize the 6505 went nuts too

According to Reverb's most recently sold data:

Signature models: $1,200 - $1,400
Block Letter models: $1,500-$1,700

I'd hold it unless you need the money now or you put the money into something even more crazy like crypto or a bored ape.

I've got a really clean block letter 5150. I plugged into it the other day. Actually had it sounding pretty decent just straight in, no pedals. I don't think I'd want to sell it, even though the prices are high.

Always wondered why it's called a block letter and not a block number. Lol

This pic shows best but the 'block' amp has round silvertone type knobs on this one for some reason.

Kyle's video here is a decent enough comparison and he is saying in this video IIRC that any differences you hear are strictly due to drift in components, including tubes, that are inherent in all amps. Meaning no two amps are the exact same. So even though he has the same exact tubes in each of these amps they will still sound different. Luckily, he is using the same cab.

Just the most collectable. They are the same as the later signature label except for the tubes. Seem to the largely the same as the initial USA 6505 as well. The output transformer changed with the 6505 but not sure that really mattered.
Side by side I have never heard a discernable difference. I've owned 18 different 5150s and 6505s over the years because I'm a dope that flips gear out of boredom and keep coming back to the same thing.
