I'm looknig for a decent backup guitar. I like a Deluxe Tele. Played the Fender Chris Schifflet sig this weekend and wasn't super impressed. Came across the Schecter PT for $499 and wondering if anyone else has played it and thoughts. Thanks!

I bought a PT Elite back in 2002 or 2003 and it's still going strong. I picked up a PT Fastback along the way too, and that's one of my main gigging guitars now too.

I have a 78 Tele Deluxe and I bought the Elite as a backup. The Schecter ended up being a lot less finnicky than the Fender and was A LOT less risky to take on the road so it became my main guitar for a long time. I'm not really a fan of most of Schecter's line (too pointy, too much abalone, etc.) but they are really well built and easy to play.

I like the simplicity of the volume and tone knobs on the PT's compared to the Deluxe Fenders. I want a HB tele, but wasn't crazy about the '72 Deluxe or CS signature from Fender. Not bad, but not what I was hoping for.

Thanks for the input. There's an Elite on ebay right now, actually, but I'm not crazy about the color.

I'm also looking at Fender FSR or FMT Tele's...Anyone?

It's a third, backup to my Les Paul and HSS Strat, so I don't need to spend too much. I was thinking around the $800 mark. ...If I get a good bonus, I may pull the trigger on a USA Shecter PT for around $1500, but I don't NEED this guitar right now. Just like having the variety.

REALLY like them but hate the thin necks, wish they would do a rounder fuller tele style neck on these models..

If you have $800 to spend, you have a LOT of options. Are Fenders out of the question?..... What about a Warmoth or other build?

Warmoth will cost me more than $800, the way I priced it. I also looked at getting a loaded body from Stratosphere on ebay and getting a neck from Warmoth. That I could maybe do for around $800.

Fenders are now definitely part of the equation! I was looking at the Telecaster FSR and FMT, but found that they are really thin in the body. I liked the one with the Pearly Gates Plus and 59 in the neck, but again, I prefer heavier guitars. If it feels like a toy, it don't feel right.

I'm not looking at the Blacktop Tele's. I like the idea of an HH tele, and it has to have some weight to it. I would definitely upgrade the bridge, pickups, and wiring.

What are your thoughts?

So I picked up this baby from AMS. I was going to go USA Custom, but the reviews for this were too good and it costs WAY less. I can rip out all the electronics and rewire for less than $200 with new pups.

...Only thing I'm worried about is the placement of the pickup selecter. I'm heavy handed and I often knock my strat out of whack, but can always recover. I'm pretty psyched. I've read the guitar weights around 9 lbs. I like a heavy guitar.

I love the look of it. Hope I can get on with that toggle placement!

Got it this morning. Really like the way it feels. It's probably 8.5-9 lbs. I prefer that over a lighter guitar.

QUESTION: Could I simply swap the Toggle Switch to the Volume or Tone knob position? Seems like a simple swap once you have the back open, but maybe not. If I have to move and solder things, I need my luthier to do that.

nice one =0 had my eye on these for a while, but ended up going for something else (a yamaha pacifica 311ms)

i've switched the toggle with the tone pot on two of my other guitars (PRS SEs) , it depends on the size of the hole , might need a dremel to enlarge the hole or not depending on the size of the toggle/shaft, easily done just have to be careful, proper tools definitely help =)

don't need to resolder if wiring is long enough which should be the case

Got the above guitar today. Been playing it all night, and I need to get to bed, so I won't write a detailed review, but I'll say the following:

-Sounds stunning. Pickups don't need to be changed. They are as good as the stock Gibson's that came in my LP Trad Pro, if not better.
-Hardware is top notch. Nothing cheap about this guitar.
-This is my first maple neck and it's cool. However, this is a 14.5 radius and I'm not used to that. I'm used to my Gibby 60's or Warmoth standard thin, whatever size that is. But, it's easy to play on except the strings are new, but very "dry". I'm used to Elixer's, so maybe I'm too used to coated strings.

Overall, I never liked any of the Schecter's I played nor they way the looked. This is a totally different beast. It's hefty (about 8.5 - 9 lbs), but it plays really easy. I still plan to get a Warmoth neck put on it later, but for now I'll leave it stock.

Love it!

It's no wonder to me they discontinued this guitar. For the price point, it is a HUGE steal. This may be way they're going toward the USA Custom's with their PT's.

nice guitar,

if they made that with 24 frets i'd be all over it!
