Will the Schmidt get good heavy sounds? I am looking for a good drop-d sound ala Godsmack, Pillar, Killswitch, etc.. Also, I am building custom guitars and would like a very versatile amp for soundclips and to take with me to guitar shows and such. Also what cab would be a good match for the amp and sound I am going for. I have a Bogner Shiva 20th Anniversary and would like another killer amp to compliment it.

The Schmidt is very versatile and can do a lot of styles - but it's not a real heavy metal amp. It can do heavy distorted sounds as well as gainy solo leads.

It definitely shows, how good a guitar sounds as it provides tons of tone - and yes, it is a killer amp.

This video shows some of the high gain tones:

I was surprised at how heavy the Schmidt can get. Its not a Herbert on channel 3 but it covers a ton of ground.

Brad, your right. The Schmidt covers all my Gain-needs.. but if I read Killswitch i'm thinking of another kind of highgain...

It's not that the Schmidt couldn't do HiGain - It definetely has a whole lotta gain. But it is probably not THAT kind of HiGain-Sound (scooped maybe?) you want, with regards to the bands you have named.
Still, I am always surprised when I do "metal" on the Schmidt how much gain, saturation, etc., it actually has. It is a killer lead and rythm sound.

Im moving my Schmidt over on gear classifieds..............................................

Yes the Schmidt can do Metall very well. I had a Peavey 6505 before.
The Schmidt can cover Metallica sound . Its just more smother and versatile.
Not so aggressiv. I think with the El34 its a sort of marshallsound but smother and tighter and cleansound fenderlike.
In my band we play from RW,Bon Jovi until Metallica and it works well.
For very tight, rough and sterile, scoped sounds it would not be the first choice.
The Schmidt is not sterile at all very warm andl lifely when used with the right speakers.

keep on rockin

Thats exactly right!...Schmidt will cover a ton of ground, style wise..there are "heavier-more focused-extreme tighter-" amps out there-even Diezel has em,but I love mine for all but the most extreme stuff...Your pickups/speaker cab,etc will make a HUGE difference in how this amp responds....Ive just got so many amps now, I have to thin the herd out a tad..maken some room for the preamp...
