Just purchased a Scumback M75 65 Watt speaker for my 1x12 closed-back birch cabinet.

As a guy who has virtually only ever known the sound of V30s in a Mesa 2x12, what can I expect?

Darker, less bottom and faster breakup. Great mids!!!

I have 2 65 watt M75's in a 2X12 I use with a Bogner XTC. They sound great by themselves but have to admit my other cab with V-30's works better in a band mix. Especially with another guitar player in the band.

I have a pair in a pine 2x12, so i can't say exactly how they'll work in a stiffer birch cab, but they're very natural sounding, smooth, not undefined, but polished and warm. A great counterpoint to a v30 cab, after I got my scums I use that cab about 95% of the time I'm playing through a cab.

This pretty much sums up my experience:

I like the Greenback type speakers for the clean tones, the mid push really creates a fat tone. As soon as you add a bit of gain I like the bass & treble push of the V30.

Personally I have the Scumback Blackback M75 (BM75) in my Orange PPC212. You get a sense of the top end sizzle of the BM75 from Pete Thorn's video:

check out BM75 at 6:25 vs M75 at 7:45. The mid push of the M75 makes it seem darker.

For the rig in my sig I run the Diezel thru the Mills Cab w/V30's and the Friedman thru the Orange w/BM75's.

Tore the V30's out of a Bogner 2x12, waaay to harsh.
Replaced them with M75 Scums, hands down the single biggest improvement in tone.

Scums introduced a warmer chewier mid tone that didn't fatigue the ears yet still have plenty of cut with other guitarists.
Primarily use Marshally amps but found they work great with other amps, Cornford, VHT.

Now have 3 cabs loaded with Scums, all with came with Factory Break In.

It definately depends on the amp. My Bogner has that lower mid focus so the upper mid spike of the V-30 works.
For a true Marshall superlead through JCM800 type of amp the M75 would work...

Awesome thanks for the replies guys, so I am hearing you all on the mids thing. In terms of bottom end I am wondering, will this speaker as a standalone carry enough weight on its own in the bottom end for rock, blues?

Way you say harsh. What do you mean?

When I played an Ubercab It was really awesome but I felt the high end was a bit too "sizzly" or maybe even harsh.

Just wondering if that is what you meant?

If so then it may be the cab and not the speakers.

Either way I am sure Scumback's will sound great. I have never played them but want some pretty bad.

Yep, too sizzly in the high end is a pretty good description.
Everyone's taste is different, I just prefer the Scum's warmth over the V30 spike/sizzle.

I agree to there being horses for courses.
I found the Scums great for upper mid focused amps like Marshall's.
Whereas the V30's compliment a smother amp like a Guytron FV100 or a lower mid Bogner.
