Serious question about pedals

You grab your cigs, toss on your randy savage glasses, fringe leather jacket, climb aboard your iron horse and twist the throttle a few times, pull the choke, kick your bike over and head out to see your favorite stripped down rock n roll band.

How many pedals are on the guitar player's board before you think to yourself "this is some fluffy bullshit"?

Do you get ruffled at color photography...or when a painter uses too many colors?

Seems a bit silly.

I honestly don't think about it at all. Especially if the performer kicks ass, or does their job well.

If they suck I just leave, regardless of equipment.

If someone doesn't want pedals, cool. If they do, cool. As long as the moving air pushing on my body sounds good ...I'm happy. Either as a performer, or as an observer.

5 plus the channel footswitch. I finally put a board together a couple of days ago.

No, but I don't like when everything is heavily filtered and edited. That's called a mess Simon.

Nice board! Also can't help but notice we have another MESA guy with the plush carpeting. Is it a coincidence that it is only a shade or two different than the lush silvery-grey rug @Techdeth has in his amp room? I'm guessing it's cause it makes a nice match to the diamond plate cabinetry.

Depends if you count volume, tuner, and gate as pedals

Generally I view more than 6 as excessive counting those

Thanks! I mounted the rechargeable power supply underneath. I had the carpet installed last spring. It made a big difference with the sound of the amps. The floor was painted concrete before.

Blues players don't need pedals. Might as well bring an acoustic. Does a good enough job.
Anyone can play the blues. It's the first shit anyone learns on guitar.

Hard rock players? Yep, pedals bring down the panties.

Actually, for hard rock, I just like going straight into one of my Marshalls, Engl Artist Edition or Bogner Helios Eclipse; no effects, not even reverb if it's built into the amp. I hate reverb.

For prog I'll use effects, I have my JP-2C + MFX, or my VHX with built-in effects.

For everything:
1. Tuner

For high gain:
1. Pre-EQ as boost
2. Post-EQ
3. Delay

For low gain:
1. Comp
2. Reverb

Getting really fancy:
1. Some kind of modulation

Simple rig: 4 pedals
Fancy rig: 7 pedals
