I've been playing Dimarzios for forever, but I've been looking at other things lately. Anybody here have any experience with the Alt 8's?

I had one in a Soloist for a few years. Great pickup. The only way I can really explain it is that I found it similar to a JB, but it didn't suck where JB's tend to suck.

I put one in my Gary Moore Les Paul along with the Jazz in the neck. I think it compliments the Jazz perfectly. Solid output without being harsh. Warm and full tone in the bridge.

So, can you compare them to a particular model of Dimarzio (if you had to)?

I love this pickup.

It's got more power and oomph than the Dimarzio 36th Anniv. Fantastic definition and sweetness; cleans up great. I'm never removing it. Similar in output to the Motor City 2nd degree Black Belt but with a bit more power and a bit smoother

I actually can't really compare many Duncans to Dimarzios. For me, Duncans are more raw and open while Dimarzios are usually more processed sounding. While I've never tried the Dimarzio AT-1 Andy Timmons model, I heard that was supposed to be Dimarzio's take on a JB, so it might be similar to that.

Hey, any clips of this guitar/pickup combo? \:D/
*edit… sick guitar btw. Looks really cool!

The closest Dimarzio I can think of is probably the Crunchlab, maybe, but they aren't quite the same either.

+1, I just put an SD Jazz and Alternative 8 with nickel covers in my LTD EC-500 and they are a good combo, very solid pick up.

Thanks; I scored that puppy at a killer price.

I could make an iPhone video but the sound quality wouldn't do any justice to the pickup or my amps.
