Seymour Duncan equivalent to a Dimarzio Tone Zone S?

Why don't you just get the dimarzio? AFAIK Duncan doesn't even make a fullsize close to the tone zone much less a mini.

The SD Hot Rails is a wicked pickup.

Indeed it is. So is the JB Jr. Neither one of those sound anything like the Tone Zone though...but that's a good thing. Worst pickup ever. :D

I have to disagree. The pickup either works with the rig or it doesn't. I've played one rig with a Tone Zone that sounded ok at best, but in most rigs I tried it with I think it sounds great! My Strat has a TZ S and I think it rocks! That said the Hot Rails are great. I tried a Strat with a JB Jr and thought it was alright but nothing great. But through another rig who knows. A pickup is just a piece of the puzzle. Whether or not it works depends on the puzzle ;)

I may go with a SD JB Jr. At one time, I had the full size JB in a G&L all mahogany Legacy, but I think the mids from the mahogany and the mids from the JB just made it too much mid-wise. I had the Hot Rails in a different G&L Legacy (ash w/rosewood board) and it was too muddy. However, that may have just been the guitar....a real dark, wooly sounding guitar. I also plan to keep the original neck & middle pickups (strat) so I don't want something too powerful in the bridge.

The full sized SD JB in my mohogany and maple BC Rich sounds great!
