It sounds so much better for heavy stuff now. The 61s were decent for cleans and lower gain classic rock type tones. But they were way too bright for high gain. Clicky attack.

The Iommis sound great, a bit on the dark side. I'm using it for my C# guitar. Next step is to take out the Gibson PCB and replace it all with 500k CTS pots, push pull for coil split.

I’ve played the 61’s in a new LP Standard my buddy purchased and thought they sounded pretty great.

I’ve owned 6 Gibson SG’s and I don’t think I’d appreciate the 61’s as much loaded in a SG personally.

My WW LP Standard came with ‘59 Tributes (anlnico 2) and I like them. I think they’d be pretty great in a SG.

And yes, there is no need for a PCB in a guitar.

I think the maple neck on the SGJ also contributes to brightness.
Regarding coil tap, I have it on a Silverburst SG standard with a MCP Afwayu/ SD Jazz combo. And I do like it. And I've read the Iommis really take well to the coil tap.

I have a maple neck on my junior, I don’t find it bright, but it is a Gibson P90.

That looks rad. I like the stability of the maple neck. My standard with mahogany neck feels a bit like a whip in comparison.
