I play everything from Blues (Bonamassa, SRV, Moore, Carlton) to more heavy stuff like Metallica, Korn but mostly everything in between, like good old hard`n heavey like AC/DC, ZZ top, Satch, Vai, Timmons, Malmsteen. I played both the Shiva and the Einstein and they are my favourite amps. Now i don`t have enough money to buy them both.
Which one would you choose and why?
The Shiva has a really good clean but not as much gain and sustain as the Einstein. On the other hand its better for the bluesy stuff. So if i chose the Shiva i had to ad some pedals? Mmmmhh

I have a Shiva and an Einstein and they are both great amps! However, if I could only keep one, it would be the Einstein.

I have a Bogner Shiva Reverb head and just picked up the Diezel Einstein 50 watt combo with Verb, I will post up when the Diezel arrives Thursday and let you know my results.

I play really similar stuff and I am 100% satisfied with my Einstein. If I could only own one amp, and it had to cover all of this stuff, I'd choose the Einstein as a combo. If a stack was an option, then I don't know ;) ! However, this is the best combo I've played, period.

I was also considering the Shiva and the reason I went with the Diezel was because it can cover the heavy stuff without breaking a sweat! The Shiva, maybe if you got an OD pedal, but I wouldn't want to that. It just wasn't designed that way.

Trust me, you wouldn't be disappointed with the Einstein.

Also consider this...Pre-amp tube replacement for changing up the distortion level and tone of the amp in general.
I usually replace V-1 and V-2 in my Diezel amps after playing them for about 3 months as they come from Germany. I do this to see what they will sound like using NOS Mullards, Telefunkens, RFT's and Amperex Bugleboys. Some of the tubes are lower rated then 12AX7's.

This will have a big effect on the tone and the saturation available from the amp. I do not need as much distortion as the Einstein is capable of getting, but by using a lower rated pre-amp tube, I am able to turn up the gain further and get different types of distortion from the amp, as well as change the overall tone the amp puts out.

I also placed a Weber Beam-blocker in my combo 50 Einstein to cut the directional attack that the V-30 has. The amp performs wonderfully under all situations and the tone it has depends on what guitar I am using it with.

As with all Diezel amps, the Einstein can easily do any style of music without much work in turning the dials to find your desired tone. It's all in the amp and waiting for the player to use it as needed.

Thanks a lot to all of you for sharing your experiences. I was a little sceptical with regard to getting a good blues tone ala slow gin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AvUD114Fts with the Einstein.
Principally its possible to get an ok distortion from a low/medium gain amp by adding pedals but vice versa, meaning getting a Fenderish clean or a warm lead tone from a high gain head is often more difficult. I know the Einstein is a superb amp but thats the SHiva too, just beeing two different kind of animals. The EInstein has more on tap with regard to gain while i got the impression of the Shiva as having a really sweet lead tone: http://www.netmusicians.org/?search=bogner+shiva
(listen to 8-BognerShiva3.mp3 But after what i heard form you i probably will go with the Einstein.

Thx i am really curious!

Thanks to all for this thread. These are the exact two amps I am also considering. In general, it sounds like I would only need the Einstein's highest gain for leads. If I backed off the volume a tad on my LP, would it clean up a bit, so as to have more of a Shiva quality to it?

To ask the Q a different way, I know the Shiva doesn't have enough gain to match the Einstein, but how does the Einstein sound with the gain backed down a tad to the level of a Shiva? I hope this make sense.

It sound's awesome! I don't even use modes 1 & 2 on CH 1 anymore. I just back off my guitar volume when I wan't to clean it up and the Einstein responds beautifully. You just have to make sure that you have good vol. pots on your guitars that have a nice taper to them.

If you want Shiva territory all the time, Mode 2 on Ch 1 will get you there.

I tried the Shiva. It's a very nice amp. I don't think it was designed to do the heavy as much. I remember that someone showed how you could solder in a couple of new resistors and the gain on it suddenly became very nice.

Bah.....I'm so happy with my Einstein that I don't even think about it anymore. It's just such a great amp, period.
:)
