I started studying with another YouTube creator/guitar teacher who has me working on using riffs that follow the chord progression (whatever that might be in a given song).
Sort of like, you let go of thinking about "what key am I in" and focus on each chord at ay given moment, and play as if THAT chord IS your key.
Interesting way to look at it.
