Hey guys, I'm a noob to the forum and to be honest a bit of a noob at amp repair (although I do have some experience in pedal making) anyway I apologise if this is completely the wrong place to be asking for repair advice but I really am stumped. If you know of a more suitable forum then please let me know.

I have been having trouble with my Simms Watts Pa 100 and actually stumbled on this form while searching for more info on the thing when I found Henric Hermansson's posts about his amazing modded versions.

anyway long story short. some of the big power caps have either gone or are going and I was wondering if anyone could put me in the right direction to find some replacements. as far as I can tell the Gone one and the one thats going are BOTH 200uf 350v. Its hard to read the details whilst they are soldered in but I would rather leave them in until I can find replacements.

So firstly, are those the correct values? secondly, would a 450v cap do as a replacement. it is my understanding that a caps voltage is a maximum voltage. for example I frequently use 50v caps in my 9v guitar pedals. and thirdly, does anyone know of any good dealers/suppliers in the UK preferably that might be able to supply me with such a thing.

Cheers in advance guys. once this shiznit is sorted I will be whoring out picks of my gear like the rest of them :-)

Just purchase the exact type and replace them. The brand will not matter a whole lot if you use good quality. F&T is good. Use no less than 350v caps. Higher will not matter at all as you will be covered with the voltage.

cool thanks for the advice. the only place I can find anything is on ebay and they are in hong kong sadly. would rather not have to wait 2-4 weeks for them.

Try http://www.audiocap.co.uk as they stock a wide range of caps, including all of the F&T range.

Two of these should be close enough for what you need :

While you're at it, may as well change the other filter caps too. According to the schematic the rest are all 32uF (you can use 500v rating).

Excellent, thank you very much mrdan. any chance you could point me in the direction of the schematic, I only seem to be able to find one for the preamp section.

cheers muchly

Cheers again Mr Dan. fingers crossed I will order the parts next week and try and get it fixed :-) happy days.

MR. dan you genius, I installed the caps today and played the simms watts full blast for 2 hours. (i don't know what you guys are like about swearing on this forum but...) FUCKING AMAZING! couldn't be more chuffed. gigging it in sheffield next week. :-)
