Hello experts and other friends...
Please refer to attached diagram.
A simple signal chain with a weird noise problem. Guitar is sampled by the Boss VE-2 to ensure that harmonies are in key.
Mic goes in/out the VE-2 to the PA
Guitar goes through the VE-2 direct to the Boss GT-6 and then to the amp.
Loud buzz/hum through the amp as pictured. Otherwise the amp is quiet as a mouse (Orange Rocker 32, great amp BTW)
If I remove the mic out (i.e. disconnect from the PA), the buzz/hum disappears.
If I go guitar --> amp, there is no buzz/hum from the amp
If I go guitar ---> GT-6 --> amp, there is no buzz/hum from the amp
As soon as I add the VE-2 and connect to the PA, there is the buzz/hum from the amp, loud and proud
Perhaps this is dumb question, but I've heard mixed opinions about the permanent use of the ground lift switch on the VE-2
Also, nobody else experiences any buzz/hum from their amps, and one fellow has a pretty complicated rig.
At home, the same set up except I use a XLR converter on the mic out so I can run it through a second guitar amp for vocal practice.
At home, no buzz/hum. Dead silent.
This would suggest its a PA issue at rehearsal - perhaps a ground loop with the PA power.
However, we have tried
Any other suggestions? I added a noise suppressor to the GT-6 internal chain but no discernible effect of buzz/hum reduction.
As mentioned above there is a ground lift switch on the VE-2 but it didn't seem to have much effect and I have been cautioned against permanent use (not an electrician so I don't really understand this bit...)
Appreciate any suggestions...

However, we have tried
- different power outlets around the room
turning off all lights
different mic cables
different guitar cables
using a battery for the VE-2
using a PSA power cord for the VE-2
running through all the VE-2 settings
using the cleanest settings on the GT-6 (otherwise a dead silent multi-effects board)
etc. etc. etc.
Any other suggestions? I added a noise suppressor to the GT-6 internal chain but no discernible effect of buzz/hum reduction.
