Single Channel Eggy modules. Same circuit layout as Randall?

Hey guys. I've been jamming with my single Channel EG3 module lately, and am thinking about doing a simple mod to it.

I've read on the MTS forum that the value of the input coupling cap can be decreased to get less bass and a tighter initial attack.

http://www.grailtone.com/guitar-tone-ar ... tions.html

My question is: can this be done to the single channel eggy modules as well? I see a capacitor on my Egnater module that looks like it's the one, in the same spot as described on the mod page listed above.

Swap it out to a .001?

I know, I know... we've already been through this, I'm a sinner, how dare I do it, etc, etc...

To be honest, it's more likely the AMP that's the culprit. I have it in a randall RM20. And the initial bass attack and feel is definitely not as hi-fi or tight as my Mod50.

But, for me, it'll be much easier to swap out a cap in a module, rather than take apart the entire AMP to try to mod it to egnater spec, you know what I mean? After all, it's only really my practice rig.

I hear ya!!I had a single EG3 when I owned an RM100 and It was unbelievable the Tone that that module produced!!!Then I sold it    and thought that the dual in the Mod 50 could do it but I was wrong!

Nick,

Don't do the cap mod on the Single EG3. I tried it and it does not sound so good . Makes it sound brittle. Just back off the bass control. I run mine at around 9:00-10:00. The mid control has a big influence on the overall darkness of the module and is interactive with the treble control--at least to my ears.
I also run mine with JAN 5751 in v1 and Tung sol in V2. Makes a difference.

I've gotta try the Jan 5751 / Tung Sol combo in the EG3/4 :). I've got it in the SL, and it is amazing :)

The JAN 5751 / Tung Sol / Chinese 12ax7a are the only tubes I need for my rig!

The Jan sounds good in everything I've tried it in.
I'm with ya Eric, the JAN 5751 tung sol and Chinese 7a's are the only tubes I've been using as well.

My EG3/4 came with an EH 12at7 and 12ax7 in v1 and v2....I've messed around with a ton of other tubes but that combination seems to have mojo...even tho' I don't typically like EH tubes.

A 5751 and a chinese ax7 were pretty similar bit the chinese tube gave it too much hair.

I find the tone controls on these mods to be SO sensitive and effective that I can't imagine needing to change a cap to one with a slightly different value. There's more tonal variation in just nudging a knob.

So, are there any Randall Modules that can be easily converted into Single Channel Eggy Modules??

Well, I'm pretty sure I could do it, but it seems there are no nice schematics anywhere :(

If you find some let me know. I just ordered 12 led's to change out my Erect Ch A to green, SL2 Ch A to amber, and maybe blue on the XTC mod. Im trying to find Purple but no luck. might do the randall power amps also.
