Thanks for the fast shipping Jeff.

So far I plugged in, clicked the "A" channel and hit a couple chords. It's exactly what I was looking for. Then the wife calls down that dinner is ready so here I am sitting in front of the computer eating while the amp sits there waiting for me. I'm having band practice tonight so I'll get to give it a good audition. I'll post more later.

We just got done with band rehearsal and this module gets a thumbs up.
It's what i wanted out of the Randall Plexi module but couldn't quite get. The "A" channel has the perfect "slight breakup" tone that just kills with neck single coils. Really a beautiful sound. The "B" channel can handle any rock song from the late 70's early 80's and responds really well when rolling down the volume. I'd bet that this module with an overdrive pedal could get you throgh just about any type of rock/metal gig. We're having an "ampfest" at my place Saturday with a bunch of modules and I know yngzaklynch is bringing some custom pedals too. I can't wait to try it out.

I really never thought I could get a module and the same day integrate it into a major part of my band's 3 sets. That happened tonight. I bet I used it on 30% of our stuff that I would normally use either SL2 or Randall Plexi on. It just fit right for so many things. I'm still using stock tubes. What are you guys using to get it even sounding better?

Some great NOS USA tubes, and some EL34s... close your eyes, and you'd swear it was the best sounding vintage marshall you've ever heard.

I've been curious about this module since I first ordered my MOD 100. I figured it was to similar to the SL2 so I never ordered it. That may change......

Bill - How would you describe the differences between it and the SL2? And can you get a decent clean sound from channel A on the SL?

I figured it was just like a weak SL2 also, so I didn't order it for a long time. Then, one day, I just ordered one. It pretty much changed my life.

It's gets a decent clean on A too.

SL B is a little more open that SL2 A or B. The SL2 has kind of an "awww" sound in comparison, at least through my gear. Actually, I never appreciated the destinct sound of the SL2 until I got my SL to complement it.

Yeah, and JMGMan was nice enough to let me borrow his COD. Of course, I ended up buying one immediately. We both could've saved each other $20 in shipping costs. LOL

I love my COD man. It's so versatile. You can get some killer lead tones with it with the gain on ChB at like 2 oclock and the treble down to 9 -10 oclock... Or throw the gain way down...and get some bitchin' blues tones!!! A very versatile module. Does Robin Trower "Bridge of Sighs" really well with a Micro-vibe or Univibe in the front!

The SL is a cool module. I LOVED ChA, but never really got into ChB that much. I "liked it" but didn't love ChB. I loved the warmth of ChA, and it's spot on JTM45 type of tone, and I always hoped ChB would have kept that warmth, but for me it didn't. It sounded awesome, but not good enough for me to keep it. I can get that JTM45 warmth with my BMAN on ChB with the gain at about 9-10 oclock. But still...a killer module!!

COD is cool. But you've got to be willing to EQ it in a unusual way. With most of the modules, it takes very little to get a good sound, and we're spoiled! But just like Eric said, the treble has to be set low. Then it's real smooth. But - on a strat neck pickup, you can bring in more treble and it just comes alive. I do end up with it around 9:30 though, just like you, to cover all bases.

I miss my Bman. I could get a JTM45 sound with no problem, so I never even considered the SL when I had the Bman. Does the SL have a smooth breakup, bright top end and a full bottom end? Sounds like the perfect relationship!! LOL!

Yeah..on the COD you do need to be able to do thing "out of the ordinary" but you'll get great results. For lower gain settings on the COD, I run the Bright on 2, and the treble at 1-2 oclock. But the gain is about 9-10 oclock on each channel. That's when I wanna do some Texas Blues stuff. Think Chris Duarte "My Way Down" tone. Take that and a strat, and you're in tonal bliss!!! But for more "Santana" type leads, I definitely lower the gain, turn the bright switch / bass switch off...and bring up the mids / lows to about 2 oclock. Definitely a variety of tones there!!!

The BMAN is damn cool. I've really found the sweet spot for me. Bass / Bright switch on 1, bass at 10 oclock, mids at high noon, treble at 2 oclock....ChA gain at high noon, ChB gain at about 9-10 oclock. I can get some warm lush clean tones on ChA, and a good JTM 45 tone on ChB. Hit the BB, and I can get into "SL ChB" types of territories!

The SL is definitely smooth on ChA in terms of it's break up. The top end is definitely warm, but not peicing at all. Turn the bright switch on, and you'll get a brighter tone for sure. Nothing T/D or VX bright...but good "spank" to it. It's got a good bottom end, which is right in line with a JTM45 / Plexi bottom end.

Killer module for sure!! I just personally found the tones in the BMAN that I was using in the SL, so I didn't need both. That and with the DF modded EG3/4 which is a Custom 45, I definitely don't need both.

Much like guitarslinger, I thought the SL was simply a "less gainy" version of the SL2. I know now that's not the case. To me the SL2 is voiced more like a JCM800 while the SL is voiced more like the traditional "Plexi" sound. The SL has a real nice glassy top end to it and is more open while the SL2 is more focused in the midrange. If you're looking for something to cover the middle ground between clean and high gain then this is your module.

The "A" channel will clean up very nicely. It's not Twin clean, but clean with that slight "jangly" breakup on the top that feels so nice to play. The "B" channel goes more into AC/DC territory. Last night I was using mostly the A channel but did use B in a few spots. One example I played last night wit the "A" channel that was a spot on match was the beginning of Rock Me from Great White. That's the tone right there. I also used it for the beginning of Wait. The "B" channel with my volume slightly rolled back was great for the intro to Monkey Business.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Bill. That's a great description. I know those songs and the tones are really good on them. Can you play the solo to Wait note for note? Damn - post that sucka. Bratta was a monster player. I heard he got bad tendinitis and had to quit playing. Sad.

Well....I TRY to play the solo for Wait note for note. It is hard to get the fluidity he has in his playing and to make sure all of those bends are in proper pitch. It's the newest song on our list so we'll see how it goes tomorrow night.
