My main players the last few years have been my Hamer Korina P90 Special and a Hamer Korina Vector. Both flat top AF. I've got a couple Les Paul's too that are sweet but recently decided I wanted something more like the Hamer Special but with some humbuckers in it. To that end I found another 93' Hamer Special w p90's I was ready to go full blasphemy on and route it for a least a bridge bucker and do some metal flake paint job on. That fell through and I ended up with a 2016 Gibson Les Paul Special Plus w/ full gloss, bound fretboard and buckers, a basic slab of mahogany, with a slim taper neck and fuck me if its not one of the most killer little guitars I own now, blown away and especially for the price.

It got me thinking about how much better these light weight slabs feel to me, and I love my Telecasters too.

What say you? Preference ??

I'm back and forth between Gretschs and Fenders for the most part, I don't really think anything of it tbh. If I were to spec one out it'd most likely be a slab, though. Simplicity is almost always the right answer.

I like ES' so I guess that makes me a pressed top guy? All I can say is velcro fly you got some dang nice taste in guitars regardless of what you choose. Hamer Korina Vector........daaaaayum always wanted one of those. Guess I should've moved when they were "only" a couple two three grand.

I like both.

I prefer the slabs when I'm doing cover band sets that are 3+ hours - that's where my hamer shines.

I like the heavier carve tops for shorter original gigs.

So which one do you use as your "Lucille" for blues gigs? Actually, I should ask you about your whole blues gig rig while I'm at it.

I use telecasters for blues stuff most of the time - my cover band does a few blues based sets a year though

Most of the time there's a handful of blues standards mixed in with a bunch of AM radio rock

I generally am using my Griffin klone extensively for that shit, along with an electric mistress clone

Just plugging straight into the mains then eh? LOL

What's the flange for in blues? A slow setting to add some rich juiciness to the sound?

Nah into a kemper most of the time - generally a clean or edge of breakup hiwatt dr103 profile run to house, then output to a solid state power amp into a EV12L for my "stage monitor" generally

I'm building a ceriatone dr103 clone as we speak though, and I may end up just using that and some kind of a IR loader depending on the gig though - most of the time we're playing strict volume control type wineries and shit like that. Once in a while we do a big outdoor venue, and I'd like to use the hiwatt clone for that.

The mistress is for ZZ Top, and slower stuff like "cold shot" and other blues standards that need some wooshing going on for texture

Flat tops are my favorite. If it has a small carve top is good too. Don’t care for a chunky carve top very much.

Carved and contour feel better to my picking arm... I wish my flat Vs had a carved like the VULTURE does. Super comfortable.

Hell yeah, this guitar is killer....Impressed with the Duncan JB / 59 pickup combo too. Dead simple rock n roll machine

Man I’m right there with you. I love my LP but fuck that thing when it comes to standing for 3 hours
