Slash is one of the guitar players that I really loved when I first started playing guitar, even one of the guys that made me wanna pick up the guitar. This was my first time seeing him play live.
Went down early & ate dinner. Hung out where the buses park, in hopes of maybe meeting him. There's not a lot of players I'd hang around to meet, but Slash is one of them. Talked to the security guy outside for awhile(I think he was happy ANYONE was hanging around talking to him). He said, good news is: they will bring him to this door. Bad news: I gotta clear the area when they do. So, being respectful and not wanting to be a super annoying fan while they go in for soundcheck, we start walking down street. Stop about 50 ft, watch Slash get off the bus and then see this other guy who was lurking barge through and get an autograph. Kinda pissed, kinda bummed we decide to go have some beers.
Hillbilly Herald opened. Mildly entertaining...basic bar rock with an AC/DC kinda vibe...their singer looks like a crazed lunatic, which, in all reality, is what kept me watching as long as I did. Cut off jean shorts with PBR socks on and a PBR mic stand. Somewhat depressing as a player to watch that, when you try writing good songs that aren't completely boring, and these guys are opening for Slash. Good guitar tones. Anyway....
Brand New Sin up next. I've heard of them but never been a fan. Played their set, had some equipment issues, but they were solid. There were some moments of coolness here and there for me, maybe 2 songs I liked as a whole.
Slash, Myles & the conspirators hit the stage and damn that band is tight They really sounded good, everyone was on their game. Played a wide range of stuff from GnR, VR, solo albums and I think even a Snakepit tune. It was honestly one of the funnest shows I've gone to in a long time. HUGE age range of people probably 7-70...everyone seemed to be having a great time, audience was loud and you could feel the electricity in the room through out the night. Band was spot on and really brought it. They look like they're having a great time and put on a killer rock show. My only slight disappointment was no "Godfather solo" - I always loved that solo.
Post show we decided to hang around and see if Slash would come out. The security guy felt bad and was telling one of the other crew guys that we kinda got shafted earlier. That we did what he asked and some other belligerent guy sneaked in for an autograph. So they gave us the lowdown of what was going on and where we should go if we wanted to meet Slash. There were quite a few people that started lining up waiting. After a bit, security came out and told us he'd be out and to get in a single file line. I'm just guessing but there were probably 75-100 lined up that Slash signed for. Very cool that he took the time out to do that
