So I re-tubed my Triaxis and JMP-1 today and...

...damn how good they sound now! Both preamps' tubes were totally wasted according to the tones I got after changing them. JMP-1 and Triaxis are bright-ish preamps so I thought I'd tame the highs a bit by putting in JJ Electronics ECC83S' and it worked very very well. Those tubes tamed some unwanted harsh treble freqs and made both of them smoother. I think I noticed some added gain too.

This was the first time I changed tubes for my amps. :scared: It also was the first time I opened up my JMP-1 and it was interesting to see how it's built.

Tubes make a hugh difference in tone. I recently put some 20% gain preamp tubes in my old 59 Guild and really like the sound. I have very little headroom and have to turn the amp way up to get the sound I want. No hiss no white noise very nice. I played around with 12AU7, 12AT7 !2AX7 and a couple of more before I settle on the 12AU7's.

Nice. :)

For a sweet vintagey crunch, try a NOS 12AU7 in the V1 of the Egnater Seminar head.

I have no use for that unit.

Thanks, man! I got bad news today; the shop I'm buying the 2:90 from said that they contacted Mesa about the 2:90 they've ordered for me. Mesa couldn't give them any guess of the date when they'll be shipping it. :gethim:

That sucks. They're probably waiting for the next 2:90 production run if they don't have one now to give you. I hate waiting!

I'm just messin' with ya. ;)

I am Gene.

I'm just loving a sampler right now. It's seriously the best way to work on new harmonies and to really dial in your skills at hitting a pedal at the EXACT right time.

I put 5 JJ preamp tubes in my triaxis once. I had 2 of them crap out on me. Either the triaxis eats tubes or I got 2 bad once out of five.

That said, the JJ's absolutely kill in my HK Access and in the V1 of my CAE 3+.

Darker that makes sense. When I had both of them I liked them mixed togther. Do you use one at a time or both?

Well, I have never used them in stereo but I bet they'd compliment each other very very well. I'm trying to decide if I'm gonna built a JMP1 - Triaxis stereo rack or not. I think a 8U rack would be the biggest rack that would be somehow portable...

I had a 12 it was not that bad. Much bigger than that you need to think about if it well fit in your car.

Yes, I had seen two different pics of JMP-1's interior before I opened it up but it was cool to check it "live". Actually, one of the pictures was that very same picture. Other one was posted at HCAF's "post your amp's gutshot pics" thread.

Oh, and you seem to have JJ's in your JMP-1. :)

Yeah I like the JJ's they smooth out the high end a lot.

Yes! That's why I chose JJs for both preamps. We'll see how the tone changes when I'll get the new 2:90...
