ALMOST walked out with a Lonestar Special. I was playing a lonestar classic 2x12 and a lonestar special 1x12 for about 2 hours, i really fell in love with them. the special has more growl to it, even tho it was only a 30 watt 1x12, the 2x12 classic obviously had more headroom and was more "airy" and almost fendery, i really like them both and have a feeling i will be going back for the special.

Congrats on picking one up if you do...I love the Classic 1x12 I just grabbed.
Like you said the clean is more Fender with the 6L6's (I already own 3 EL84 combos, so I guess I'm just not looking for another one low wattage combo) and it has a lot more power to fight off a loud drummer live. ;)

I wish I could afford a Special combo, I love that amp

am i not alone for liking the special more too?
I agree with you on this one. I liked the special a lot more, but I did also get a lot more time with it than the other model, so perhaps it's simply because of that. Either way, they are both awesome amps.

It's all about the tubes in 'em.

yeah man thats another factor, im scared 30 watts might not be enough, i would really rather the 100 watt 1x12.

The 100 watt 1x12 sounds great...with the Special you might have a bit of dirt on your cleans when gigging...which can be a good thing too.

BTW the 100 watt 1x12 moves some serious air...it is unbelievably loud....I can see the front grill cloth really pumping on chugs, it's amazing one speaker can put out that much power and hold it together.

You're not alone... I like the dirty more on the Special. As far as the clean goes, either will do. 30 watts with a 1X12 (or 2X12) extension cab is all you need for ANY gig.

The Special is a cool amp, but you'll save about $500 if you buy used...

How was the dirty channel on the Special?

was awesome, the difference seems to me it has a HAIR more gain and it just seems fuller, more mids, where as the classic seems lighter and airier, they both sound amazing and i was having a hard time choosing.

Has anyone compared the lonestars to the Fender supersonic or to the clean of the mark IV? You guys have me curious...

Boosts work well, like the BB Preamp a la what Andy Timmons does with his Lonestar....

I saw him at a guitar show and his tine was INCREDIBLE with the LSS boosted.

I got a good tone out of the LSS and a BB, but it does kind of bug me if an amp sounds better with a boost than without.
