He states there are no directions that come with the kit but it is listed as the early 68 kit.....

By popular demand, we are trying out a complete early 68 era parts package option. This inlcludes everything needed to build to EVH specs. Tubes, head case ect. Please note that no step by step instructions are included. But layouts and wiring diagrams are.

$1200. So who has heard anything about this???

I have heard one because a good friend of mine built one. Had it at my house a couple months ago. Sounded great. My friend even had Sylvania pres in it...it was so loud but sounded killer! If you have specific ?'s I will ask him and post the answers here. :D

I've spent a lot of time reading the metro boards, since back when I got my 1959HW. Random thoughts,

1. The quality of kits and service appears to be top notch. I don't think I ever saw a complaint anywhere.

2. There will always be some disagreement as to what exactly the "EVH specs" are. If that even matters to you.

3. In addition to whatever layouts and diagrams you get, you have the built-in help and support of their forums.

So there's three reasons to go for it.

But having said all that, you can get an original ptp metalface in that same price neighborhood. No assembly required. That to me is one big reason not to go for it.

Well I know that the Ralle amps seem to be the measuring stick latey for most Brown award, I wonder if he had any input into this?

Yeah, there is a 1959x on Chris Guitars right now mint for 1100 and it could be tweaked but already built.

Why the no directions???? I know placing EVH on an Ebay auction is automatic death but he has nothing to do with amp kits.

After the Olaf pre amp I know I will be itching to build something else.

Well, the one on Chris Guitars is a reish. I'm talking an original original.

Why no directions? No idea. Maybe a safety thing? Seems to me you'd better have good lawyers if you start telling people how to dick with high voltage. Just a guess though.

I'd love to build one personally. If I had the time and money I'd be all over it, just for the experience. I was looking at a couple of Metro kits on ebay that people had already assembled before I bought my '72, too. But that idea made me a bit nervous.

There's the Ceriatone kits too...

I agree 100% with these satements!! That said, I would only go for the metroamp kit only if you wanted to REALLY learn how to builds amps. If not , then get yourself a 1971 -2 PTP superlead.

Methinks The no instructions is sort of like a diclaimer that they aren't ripping off Eddie or anyone lol :D

That said, there are only a few differences between the Eddie spec and a regular spec plexi, so if you could get your hands on a regular metroamp instructions, you would not be lost at all.

Im pretty sure that the EVH spec one is not Ralles specs. The Ralle mod has a few more things going on.

The other kits have full scats and CD-Rom support with instructions, just the "EVH" does not have them.

I admit I am not a Plexi guru......n00b level is more like it so I would not klnow what to look for while buying a used one.

Ok, that's even odder then, that they'd leave out the instructions only for the 'EVH' amp...

Could be they put the kit up for sale before they finalized the editing of the instructions and all. We have a Publications department that puts our course guides together and they go over and over the documents to make sure everything's accurate. They might have just want to make the kit available before all that's completed.

But, I don't really know... the legal issues mentioned sound like a likely thing too.

Eddie is ripping us off with that $25,000 Frankie so he has it coming

Yeah, we do know people that have the instructions for the normal Plexi so I guess no issue.

I built a 2203 clone and the directions I got were awesome. The CD that I got has more info than I could possibly need. George must be working on the directions for the EVH kit, I can't imagine that there won't be any available.
