...Then the lights started to flicker and I saw a blue light coming from the window. I powered everything down and ran to the 2nd floor of the house where my kids were all awake and crying when I realized the power lines right outside my house were arcing like crazy. We had high winds and they started to touch. It sounded like that seen in War Of the Worlds when the Tripods first come out of the ground and start toasting everyone but Tom Cruise.

It stopped after 5 minutes and the Firemen and police leave. I go back down to fire up the rig and make sure I have no damage. While I just start to play, the whole thing starts again. Power everything down, run back upstairs, kids crying again. This time the lines arc for 25 minutes. These are lines no more than 15 or 20 feet from my house. Just outside my girls' bedroom window. Sparks are landing on my house and lawn. I get everyone downstairs just in case we have to leave.

I swear, I got my two Suhr Moderns and put them on the first floor of the house on a couch. Just in case. :scared:

The block is covered in Fire Engines and Emergency Service vehicles. After 25 minutes, the pole that the lines lead to across the street literally explodes into flame and burns. It was so bright you couldn't look right at it.

Just called Verizon to report it. I never lost power but the lights in the house were iffy. Seemed stable this morning.

Scary stuff.

So like I said, the M4 doesn't sound too good when this happens. :D ;)

Something tells me that even the best Furman wouldn't have done SH*T in that situation!

Glad your family and gear is safe!

Wow...that is ONE CRAZY story. I'm glad no one was hurt or any property (besides the pole) was damaged.

I have to admit it was scary. When the lines were arcing they were spraying sparks onto my property but when the pole burned, several lines started falling off it towards my sidewalk. I had everyone on the first floor with shoes and coats ready to go if we had to.

Ditto!
I'm pretty sure a Furman PM Pro would have handled that. It would either have shut down
due to over/undervoltage detection, or worse case blown its internal lightning fuse.
I had my PM Pro blow in a lightning storm. Had to send back to Furman to fix, but it saved
a room full of studio and computer gear.
