I've just tried a Mesa Tremoverb and a Engl Ritchie Blackmore Signature amp, and when I went back to my Herbert it just struck me how quiet it is compared to many other high-gain amps. A little mechanical noise from the trafos, but almost nothing out on the speakers compared with other amps. Beautiful... :)

it is indeed quiet. and owning both a herbert and a dual rec (and other amps...), i can say that the herbert is the most quiet amp i have even at high gain settings without a noise gate. and the controlled feedback on demand is the best.

too bad mine is in the shop right now. Duolos has had my amp for about a month now since he recieved it (5 weeks gone for me  ). I'm like a kid waiting for a toy this christmas...

Enjoy yours!

Herbie is quiet, but I like SILENCIO when I don't play, so I use the ISP decimator even at low volume. I think it might be my power outlet that generate some noize maybe?.

BTW you guys need to try an ENGL savage 120... with around noon, it's like a shower !!!!!

Mh, strange.

I have to use a deciminator in the loop, otherwise with Channel Vol at 12 and Gain at 2 I have problems with noise...

My Herbie is quiet like a sleeping volcano...just waiting to erupt.

Dve, i dont use a noisegate or a decimator & its quiet as can be...very odd.

Mh,

what about your channel volume and gain setting?

The noise is still there when I plug in and cut the whole signal away by close the vol poti on my guitar and put the noisegate in front of the amp, so the problem seems not to occur later...

my channel volume is dimed. my gain runs between noon & 3..depending upon what im playing. Maybe Peter or Olaf can chime in with some words of wisdom....

Noisegate in front of the amp makes no sense.
Insert it in the serial loop or switchable loop.

If You have too much white noise on Your amp You
should replace V1.

Thanks for the answers.

I have my Channel Volume opened up at 12.00

Noisegate in front was just to check if I have problems with cables, etc... ;)

I already replaced V1 with a 12AX7AC5 HG+ as you recommended. Its better than before, but far away from being dead quiet as pauly said - no way without a noisegate
