Hey Crew,

Got a 2005 VH4 inbound. Question(s), when did Diezel ad the XLR jack for the Columbus? Is anyone using the Columbus? If you are not what works well? As always, thank in advance for your answers. on!

Also, I want a Columbus, but right now I use an Engl Z-12 midi controller works, but does not receive phantom power from the amp like Columbus and some others do...

Diezel made a footswitch some time ago that goes into the XLR jack.
It was made(interchangeable) for both the VH-4 and Herbert. But was set at factory for one or the other.
I was lucky enough to score one used a few months ago.

Peter makes one thats non MIDI but I belive it's only for the D-Moll and Herbert.

I think Herbert is the only XLR equipped head. Columbus uses midi for vh4.

Any midi controller that sends PC works well. Depends on your rig.

My fav is prob the PEAK. Mainly because a bank has 4 buttons and the amp has 4 channels.

Yeah no XLR jack on the VH4. I use the Tech 21 Midi Moose - simple and inexpensive.

I use the same for midi switching functions with my Killer Kali++.. Simple, cheap, durable and works flawlessly for my needs

Did I understand correctly that you state that you are not able to phantom power Z-12 from your Diezel head? That is because Engl uses different pins for phantom power so you need to modify your cable to accommodate this. Not a big job either to yourself (if you know how to solder) or someone who makes cables. I was checkign this out for my friend who used Engl, but he has sold his Engls since so unfortunately I cannot re-test this for you. But this is what I noted down then:

Diezel
Pin
1 power (-)
4 MIDI
2 not connected
5 MIDI
3 power (+)

Engl
1 power (-)
4 MIDI
2 power (+)
5 MIDI
3 not connected

After I read your post I did some research on the PEAK pedal. Watched some clips and was quite impressed with it and for the price. I contacted them about the power supply or the option to have phantom power. They got back to me and said for an extra $10.00 they will mod it to run phantom power. I am placing the order today  !

Here is the response I got from them,

Regarding to the above manual (VH4), the FCB4N2 works with this amp. The amp supply 18VDC through the 5 pins midi cable but the FCB4N2 requires maximum voltage 12VDC so, it will need to do some modification to support this amp. I will have to charge $10.00 for this modification. (Modify voltage pins and change some components to support 18Vdc)

I bought mine 2nd hand an it works flawlessly. I just checked the vh4 manual and it's 12V DC. Plus i tested with a meter. No need for $10 mod. I use it with vh4 and Hagen no issues.
