You can see my original post about the amp here: https://www.rig-talk.com/forum/thre...es-s-i-r-la-marshall-jmp.283821/#post-3624783
1976 100W Marshall JMP modded by Mark Cameron and part of the S.I.R. LA rental fleet back in the heyday of hair metal.
I received this amp from a friend who had gotten it from someone who told him it had just been sitting in a studio for years.
This amp started life as a 4-hole non-master volume 1959 100w JMP in 1976. At some point the amp was brought in by S.I.R. LA (Studio Instrument Rentals Los Angeles) and made part of the fleet of amps rented to studio musicians and bands of the time. The amp has “SIR LA“ stenciled on the bottom of the headshell as well as what looks to be “SIR #1” in faded sharpie on top of one of the transformers. The lettering is faded and it’s hard to make out for sure, but this is my best guess, see picture.
The amp also has “Roy Harper” stenciled on the bottom. Roy Harper is an accomplished solo artist who has played with the likes of David Gilmour and Jimmy Page. Roy sang vocals on “Have a Cigar” from the album Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd.
Lastly, the Cameron mod. When I received the amp I knew that it was modded but I didn’t know the integrity of the mod or who had done it. I sent it to Shea of Monomyth Amplification and he quickly recognized it as a very early Mark Cameron “Aldrich” mod. Shea is very familiar with Mark’s work and has had a number of his amps through his shop. He believes this was by done by Mark in the late 90’s. Shea added one resistor to tighten up the gain a bit. This is completely reversible and does not affect the integrity of the Cameron mod.
Though I can’t know for sure the story on it, it’s safe to say this Marshall has been all over the place and all over some amazing records. This amp absolutely screams and is truly special.
Cosmetically the amp shows wear from normal use, but overall great shape for its age. Some tolex tears, and tolex lifting from the headshell in spots. The power cable was replaced at some point. Original transformers. Shea gave this amp a thorough health checkup and she’s ready to rock for another 47 years.
Everytime I turn this amp on I change my mind and decide not to list it, but I really could use the money more and this should go to someone who appreciates the lore around it and uses it.
Price: $5000 shipped PP F&F. PP goods and services is fine, buyer covers fees.
I am about an hour and a half north of Los Angeles in Bakersfield if someone wants to meet up locally.
