To me, it's just a higher gain version of the Quickrod, but has resonance and presence controls (vs. the the presence on the QR) to help sculpt the bottom end a little easier. Obviously, it doesn't have the "gears" the the has Quickrod either. The QR is a little more my speed, and I've got the 22 watt version that I'm keeping so that's why this one is on the block. But even in the QR, I don't really ever go any higher than 2nd gear on it and most of the time it stays in 1st. The EQ'ing to my ears sounds a little more toward the low end of the spectrum with the Nitro, but between the resonance and presence controls you can still bring it out of that overly bassy bottom end fairly easily. When it had the KT88's in it, they were a little too much for it and the resonance control was just about useless. I could never dial out enough low end, so that's why I had it coverted back to EL34's.
I would add that you can dial the gain back on this amp as well, but there is plenty on tap if you want to take it into that territory. I doubt I ever got it past about noon on the gain knob though, but that's just a personal preference thing.
Sunday/Funday bump. Lots of interest, but no commitments yet. Last chance to grab this today at this price. If it doesn't sell here then this ad is coming down and I'm going to list it on Reverb where it's going to be listed at a price that covers my Reverb/Paypal fees, plus the buyer will be paying taxes and shipping if they buy it there. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if I'm going to have to deal with the 1099 hassle and shipping, I might as well put it in front of a broader audience with more potential to sell it. It just makes sense.
If you're feeling froggy, you better jump now because once it hits Reverb it's staying there and any offer made here is going away. Clock is tickin'.
Sold on Reverb in about 24 hours in the original red tolex headshell. Full asking price of $1500 plus $100 shipping. Heading to the new owner in Indiana!
I'm nearly there but this is usually when the "doubt" starts creeping in and my mind starts playing that "Do you really want to spend $6K on a guitar?" I've got a few PRS Core guitars, but I've always wanted a Private Stock Now that it's becoming a possibility I'm starting to second guess myself.
What's really going to suck if that if I do this, I'm going to have to buy the PRS before I get paid at Reverb. I don't foresee any issues, but if anything does happen that screws any of those Reverb sales up it's going to be no bueno. My wife is likely to kill me.
