Kruse Modded EVH 5150 III 50w: $995 shipped, buyer pays paypal fees
Up for your consideration is a 2016 5150 III 50w head in mint condition, heavily modded by Jens Kruse from Kruse Kontrol Amplification. Overall I spent $850 on these mods. Aside from a small ding on the back right corner protector, this thing is flawless (see photos). Freeing up some funds, so this beauty has to go. Less than 50 hours play time.
I sent this head to Jens brand new, and he performed the following mods:
1. B-2 Stealth Mod : includes separate Gain + Volume pots for ch1/2: 2x dual concentric pots. Jens also tweaked channel 1 slightly from Stealth specs, here are his notes:
"I have recently started to NOT do the Stealth conversion to channel 1 (green) as it is very gainy. Instead I've been turning it into a gorgeous clean channel that is mega warm, punchy, full and has tons of clean headroom."
2. SuperSonic Mod: highly recommended and variable with a pot, it seriously opens the amp up for lots more sonic possibilities and better cut through mix
3. Kruse Variac: selectable 50W-25W-15W-7W-3W
4. EQ separation: dual concentric pots for each Treble-Middle-Bass control of ch1/2
5. Ch. 3 Gain Trimmer Switch - cuts gain and adds bite to channel 3
You can read more about these mods at his site (just google Kruse Kontrol EVH Mods)
The amp is now a total beast. 3 fully independent channels with independent control. The Kruse Variac is great for taming the amp for bedroom volumes. Probably my favorite of the mods is the Supersonic knob, which reduces compression and really lets the amp breathe.
Aside from the mods, this amp needs little introduction. Full midi, 2x6L6 grunt (Sovtek 6L6wxt+), switchable effects loop, and easy to transport. You'll notice the blue tape I put at the resonance knob on the back. Apparently, Jens says those knobs are a bitch to get back on, so it had to go on sideways. The tape simply marks the min/max settings, no issue with functionality whatsoever.
Includes factory foot switch/cable in great condition (a few knicks in the paint) and power cord. Thanks for looking and let me know if you have any questions!
