Ordered a new set of Sovtek 5881/6L6 tubes. Before I removed the originals, I took a bias reading. They were set to 50mA!!! Installed the new tubes and pulled them down to 30mA. The amp instantly sounds better, and the gain level is now much more in line with what I thought it sound be. I am waiting on some new preamp tubes to get here and will post again after they do. Here's a quick clip. And yes, I realize that I have the bass up too much...lol!

A couple of gut shots when I had the amp open. I'm guessing this was a 2015 model... though I thought they had stopped making these in the mid 2000s. Anyway...

Supposedly 28 is the magic number for the 5881’s, 30 is close enough..enjoy!!

Sounds great man. Keep us posted on new pre amp tubes. Maybe the inside was signed at a service? Enjoy!

Yeah.... I think you are right about when they stopped production of the HR50's, Google says 2006. Your amp sound good and has that Soldano clarity to it, congrats!:2thumbsup:

Production End:
The Hot Rod 50 line, including the HR50 and its variations, was discontinued by Soldano in 2006

I loved the HR50 I had - hated the FX Loop. I think Mike/BAD would sell a bunch if they reissued these with the new loop. Avengers too.

I dug the HR50 over the SLO.

Sounds killer . Any attenuation in that clip ?
Thanks! No. No attenuation. I have tried my Webber, the PS100 and my TwoNotes. As soon as you attenuate, it sounds like shit. lol! The Captor X is just getting the sound to the camera. I am using an IR of my cab with a 57/121 combo. Pretty much sounds like it does in the room.

I was honestly surprised that the amp is not really "that" loud. I mean it is loud, but it is not tearing your head off. 4-6 is the sweet zone. At 6 it just opens up and delivers "that" tone. I'm hoping that when I get the new preamp tubes in, it will deliver the tone I hear in my head when I see a purple Soldano...lol!

Soldano hot rod 50 plus is a great amp if they(BAD-Mike) reissues that amp it would sell great
