I see a Soldano Lucky 13 100w head on GC Used on line in their Betheda, MD store across the country. It's relatively rare to find one on the used market for $1200 or at any price.
I call and ask if there's any problem with the amp. "I don't think so" says the sales clerk.
"Are you sure?" I ask. I tell sales fool to check it out and call me back after giving him my phone number.
"Yep, everything is fine; it works great."
"I'll take it."

I pay over the phone on Tues.
GC clown says "It'll ship on Wed tomorrow."
I call back Wed and it's not shipped.
I call back Saturday. Not shipped.
Call back on Tues a week later and it ships that day.

This two channel amp arrives. Reverb does not work on either channel. Tubes appear fine; RC connectors to reverb tank are attached. I call GC and they give me some insane excuse.

I take it to the local GC here in Reno. They said they won't send it back to Soldano but they can send it to their guy to fix or refund my money. Fine. I want my money back on my CC and I'll pick it up and pay for it later when it gets repaired. I know it won't be done in a timely fashion and I don't need to give them an interest free loan. I tell them to call me when it gets back to the store and I'll re-purchase it. They have my phone number on the tag on the amp and in their computer. Fine they say; glad to oblige.

I call back about every 5-7 days and "it's out for repair" ..... 3-1/2 weeks later.
I look again on GC Used on line and I see the same amp for sale in the my local store.
I call the manager and ask him what's up? "We never sent it out to be fixed."
Knowing what I knew from the start --that I'm dealing with geneticallly inbred cretins --and this head is very uncommon on the used market, I eat sh-t and take it.

I drive around the block and ship it to Soldano who per my request mods it for more gain than stock. They discover and repair broken wires to reverb tank: $150 including s/h both ways. Not bad at all IMHO.

Two channels
Independent EQ
Independent reverb settings for each channel
This thing is outrageous!
Incredible cleans and sick burning OD and sustain.
Spring tube reverb that blows away any reverb I have ever, ever heard.

It goes to 13 :D

Oh GC  They just put it back? :dunno:

Looks like someone likes Soldano. I actually haven't ever played one. Never really see them around here. I've been wanting to check one out for sometime now though.

send it back to soldano. one of the best customer service around. also lifetime warranty.

I just tuned in for the Bukake. :scared:
I did too. GC does pull some shitty things. Glad it worked out for you. Very nice Soldano wall you have going there!

Good score Jim!

Your story reminds me why I refuse to do business with GC.

Yeah...they're nice amps.
I have a 50 watter in white. ;)

Damn Jim! Lookin good in that room. Surf box and an Avenger and I would call it done.

I had a Surf Box for a year or two and sold it this past summer. Great unit but I just wasn't using it that much.

I love the Space Box; it sounds so good in the rack setup above. I really like playing with reverb, more at home than live. Live there's enough ambience it the venues.

Avenger? I have enough Soldano lead channels to be the back line for Govt Mule!

You have a problem sir. Too many Soldanos. Simple fix, send me the SLO and you'll be okay!

i agree... except send it to me haha

Sucks about all the GC bs. Not sure I'd have the patience to have made it thru that process
At least its all good now.

I've only played a SLO, how does this compare?

I'd be interested in that too, what do you think compared to the SLO? I've heard a SLO and although I've never personally played it, sounded great

It's not apples to oranges but it's like peaches to nectarines. Every Soldano product including Mike's sweaty socks and get compared to the SLO. But I'll oblige:

Lucky 13 clean is heavenly. It's incredible. I've played D style amps, Bogners, my SLO and Soldano rack gear, I own a BF SR and this smokes them for clean and reverb. From mellow to super clean funk as if you were almost going direct to the board. It's truly mesmerzing to play this channel, especially with single coils or dual humbucker guitars with both pickups on.

Lucky 13 overdrive before I sent it to Soldano was very cool. It was darker than the SLO and about 1/2 the gain. They EQ it darker to work better with reverb or that is what I understand. Great for all but death metal; it can get close to 80s spandex metal tones but maybe need a bit more oomph to really nail them.

Lucky 13 overdrive after I sent it to Soldano: holy shit.
Gain and sustain rival that of the SLO. The SLO lead channel is a more open with greater 'complexity'. With reverb off the Lucky 13 sounds 85% like the SLO. With the reverb increasing you get more glass and high end.....more liquid when you dime the gain. Typical of anytime you play with reverb I guess. And that is a blast! You have to be careful about gain because with the reverb you can get some minor tendency towards ?ghost feedback or notes. But you can dime the gain and bring the reverb up pretty high depending on master volume and your proximity to the amp or cabinet.

Not to flatter to much but this amp can make any guitar sound good. It's extremely versatile. I think if Soldano released it with the mods to the high gain channel it would have more acceptance in circles like Rig Talk and HugeRacks Inc.

Jim already said I could have that amp. True story.

I know you do but you know what they say? They say the Avenger is different. No FX loop to screw with signal. No second channel to disrupt tonal signal. Some say Avenger has more "hair". Maybe it's not your thing IDK. What I do know is that I would like to try an SLO. Never had the oppurtunity.

Maybe. They made a few Avengers with Deyoung trannies too.
I need two channels for my band but an Avenger could be a hoot. I never played one.
