Hi, I've been offered an early 2000 Soldano SLO. The owner states it's loaded with mercury magnetic transformers but I thought the SLO came with Deyoung and all other Soldano range was mercury. Or am I misinformed?

It should have the DeYoung! I wouldn't get a SLO without it!

Thought so (thanks Rezamatix), and I think he may have it wrong as the photos I have look to have DMI printed on then which I believe is Deyoung?

DMI markings should be fine. Just make sure it's on both. Seller probably just doesn't know much about Soldanos and is trying to puff it up.

This X1000. DeYoungs have the magic sauce that makes the SLO an SLO.

Yep all SLO's come with DeYoungs. He switched from Mercury to the Onetics, which are also awesome transformers and Bud used to work for DeYoung IIRC, in all the other Soldano products some years ago.

Getting a little off topic but the Avenger model originally had Mercury and later switched to Onetics ?..Anyone know what year the switch was made and differences in tone ? I had an Avenger a while back that was awesome, think it was a newer one. I'm trying to figure out what transformer it had so if I buy another one it will be the same.

I owned a 2008 Avenger 100 for a few months, it was great. Sold it for no good reason, just wanted to try something else out. I'd like another Avenger 100,

When I got it I called Soldano to ask what transformer was in it, they said it's changed a few times over the years for the Avenger, and that mine had a transformer from a company called Marvel (http://www.marvelelectric.com/)

Thanks for all your help guys. Turns out it does have Deyoung so general mistake from the seller. Unfortunately, I found out today that the mo doesn't have a back with it (and I'm in the UK) so seems to big a risk as I'd be gigging it and don't fancy exposed valves whilst transporting

That wouldn't necessarily be a dealbreaker for me, the seller should account for that in their asking price too. I'm not sure what Soldano's policy is, I'm guessing they would make/sell a replacement backplate, not sure how expensive it could be. DIY solutions and aftermarket too would be where I'd look.
