Hey all... Got a small dilemma n could use some advise.
Current setup
Gibson Les Paul custom w Suhr Aldridge neck n bridge.
Diezel Einstein w KT77s & advised Ruby pres.
Running Scumback Bm75 speaker

I'm using this to play mostly classic rock tunes w some pop balony mixed in

My dilemma: lately the amp sounds super harsh and brittle. I used to have 6550s I'm it and loved them .. U know that old chestnut. But switched to 77s when they died only bc I had a new pair sitting. Then seems the amp got brittle to me. I know... Go back to 6550!? Or can I achieve some great tones w maybe 6L6s or a different speaker to tame harshness?? Or perhaps pickup change?? I know so many variables... But I'd like to hear what you guys think

Thanks!!! Go!!!!

First of all i would check bias and then just fiddle with eq, and if that doesn't help then at last i would think about changing tubes. Tomorrow i should get my set of JJ KT77 and i will let u know if i have similiar results. Currently running my einstein on EL34's and amp isn't harsh but it can be also thing about my cab loaded with v30's.

Bias is ok. And I keep fiddling w the eq more than I ever had to. May go diff tube n see

Papa!!!! Thanks for the info. I was thinking more neutral speaker.

BM75 has a lot of upper mids and a spikey high-end. I have one in a Diezel 1x12 cab as well as the stock V30 in the Einstein combo. I would check bias, then either switch to EL34s or try a different speaker as Peter recommends.

Thanks bud. Bias is all good. I'm gonna try the K100. Then maybe be defiant and put 6550s back in... Or maybe 6L6s. I'm not an EL34 fan... Let the flaming begin!!!

Hey, just got my set of KT77, biased them to 68ma and to be honest, they sound a little smoother then el34 and i like them more then el34's.

Oh i agree 100%. ive been using KT77s in usual EL34 amps for quite some time. Def like them more than 34s...maybe i just love the 6550s that much...and a speaker change may do me some good.

Speaker change
I run a Eminence Delta Pro (EV12ML copy) in a 1x12 with a 100 watt Einstein for my small rig. Very neutral and has smooth yet cutting highs.
But I really need to try some K100's

Hay Pauley..Just my 2 bits ,Im old hehe and play pretty much classic with my Einy.I prefer NOS el-34 Siemens and new TUnsol pre's.Smooth as butter and harmonics up the Wazoo

Thanks fellas. I'm gonna try n get myself a K100 to try. If anyone's got one they wanna part with hit me up.
