Can the M4 be run in stereo?

Anyone here using one with a GCX Audio Switcher/Ground Control Pro? If so, how do you find the 3 pieces work together in terms of switching? Is wiring it straight forward or do you need a custom cable?

Can you run it with fewer than 4 modules in it?

I'm sure I'll have more questions but that's all for now. I'm feeling really capable of putting all my gear on Ebay and ordering an M4 to make a stereo rig.

I use the Ground control pro w/ my M4. It works flawlessly. All I did was set the M4 to midi channel 2, and send signals 1-8 to the M4 on channel 2 depending on what Module / Channel I want (Program 1 = Module 1 Channel A, Program 2 = Module 1 Channel B, Program 3 = Module 2 Channel A, and so on).

As far as it w/ the GCX I have not tried, but I have HAD the GCX in the past. Being that the GCX is VERY easy to configure w/ the Ground Control Pro, these three items would work FLAWLESSLY together.

No custom cables needed, and for me since I only use the Ground Control pro, the M4 powers it for me via the MIDI cable, so since I don't have the GCX anymore I still don't need a wall wart (power supply) on my pedal board.

The manual for the M4 was not very helpful on the dipswitches to config the M4's midi capabilities, so I downloaded the MOD50 and it had the correct documentation for me.

Jeff: That is something I think you should update. Use the Mod50's docs as a template for the M4, since the concept of the M4 isn't that diverse from the Mod50 (minus the power :) ).

If you have any questions, please ask, as I've used the M4, GCP, GCX all before, and have went through the headaches to make things work flawlessly ;).

Just also saw your stereo question. It has a mono input w/ 2 outputs.

For me, I don't use it because I run from my Lexicon MPXg2 mono to the M4, and out mono back to the G2. After it comes back the G2 splits it into a stereo signal for all of my efx.

But, if I needed it, the M4 DOES have 2 outputs, so I would be covered.

Thanks, I appreciate the response. The reason I ask is that I do have a Mesa 50/50 that is capable of stereo operation. I would get another Mesa 4x12 and run in stereo just to see how I like it.

that's cool...i'd also recommend trying the VHT 2/90/2 as a power amp, as its the best, biggest, most versatile power amp I've ever played. I've owned the mesa 50/50, 2:90, 20/20, marshall 9100, 9200, 20/20, vht 2/50/2, vht 2150, etc...and the 2/90/2 beats the pants off of everything besides the 2150. the 2150 is THE best power amp ever made in most people's opinions, but the 2/90/2 was designed in its likeness....just not 4 rack spaces...and HEAVY as hell ;).

try one out...it'll make your m4 sound KILLER...i just found the 50/50 to dark and dull sounding...with no liveliness...moved over to the 2/90/2...and w/ no changes to my preamp...i have uber tone ;).

just a thought!
