Hi all,

my first post here, but I'm not new to Diezel. I bought a VH4 + 4x12 in 2000-2001, but sadly had to sell it a couple of years ago for financial reasons.

I'm eyeing a einstein 50 with 2x12 cab now, since it's a lot cheaper than the VH4, and listening to online clips, I think the 3 modes on ch. 1 can be converted to seperate channels pretty easily.

I know there's a mod to move the mode-switch to a pedal, which is pretty easy, but did anyone add gain knobs too?

And maybe even volume pots for mode 2 and 3?
I guess the volume of channel 1 is after the EQ section, so 2 extra volume wouldn't be possible, but I would like to know if gains can be added (I would put them on the back panel).

Next question, power amp tubes!
I'm fond of 6L6 and 6V6, I guess 6L6 is possible, but how about 6V6?

Last question, will changing V1 or V2 from 12AX7 to a 12AU7 or 12AT7 result in more headroom, a bigger dynamic range?

I really like the sound of the amp stock, but I would like to know how far a couple of simple mods would stretch.
I'm aware it was designed as a 2 channel amp, but no harm in using tools a little different, no?

Thanks in advance!

Peter? Any comments?

I know it's a bit rude asking about modifications to something you developed and created, but I'm a long-time diezel fan who just can't afford the big boys for the moment.
(I even think I was the first one to post a review of the 4x12 on the internet back in the day...)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Dany

Welcome to the board

Why not eyeing for a D-Moll with all options ?

Do not use 6V6 in the Einstein, the plate voltage is too high
for this type of tubes.

Sorry but there is no option to mod the Einstein concerning
volume pots. It would be more easy to use a effect unit and
compensate the volumes by programming volume levels.

No need for 12AU7 or 12AT7. You will loose some midrange
and power. These types will deliver only some more current
in low impedance circuits.

Best,
Peter

Hi Peter,

I never tried the D-moll, but it's marketed as a metal-amp, and I' m more into funky and bluesy tones, and some rock 'n roll.
So the schmidt would be the better choice I guess, but too expensive unfortunately...

I almost never used channel 4 of the VH4, but maybe I'll just have to try the D-moll.
How are the dynamics? More open than a VH4 or about the same?

cheers,
Dany
