Good day,

Does anyone have the THD 212 cabinet? I just got this thing and think it is a great little cabinet! I am not sure I am crazy about the speakers though. I play modded Marshalls, a Bogner XTC and Shiva and prefer V30s, G1265s, T75s and a mix of these at times. I tried Scumbacks with my XTC and Shiva and did not like them, nor did I like any Greenbacks when I tried them. Bogners seem to be made for V30s. I also picked up a Splawn QR from a friend so I am trying to use this little cab as my go to - easy to carry rig!

Has anyone experience mixing in a more bass heavy speaker with the Vintage 30? Maybe the G12K-100 or Classic lead 80? Curious what anyone has found with regards to mixing. With the Splawn I may need to mix in a G12-65 even though it isn;t exactly bass heavy.

I am going to order some of these and start testing and will let you all know.

Most will let you know I have done a lot of speaker swapping and comparing lately. My favorite is the V30/G12T-75, both well broken in are hard to beat by a mile. This is a very even and smooth combination that will cover anything from classic rock and blues to metal. Very versatile and sounds good with any amp I throw at it. The G12K-100 was too stiff to me and the CL-80 too sterile. Another good one is the V30 and G12-65 but that is a lot of mids. I keep two broken in V30s(Hellatones) in my Bogner 212 and that thing rules with my Bogner Shiva and PWE EH.

I heard a H30 and 65 in a THD cab and was pretty impressed..... you can not go wrong with the THD cab...

I love V30s with my amps so I tend to use at least one V30 in every cab. Will try the V30/CL-80, V30/T75 and V30/G1265 and report back.

I wish I had never sold my THD 2x12 :aww: Mine came with the old THD-labelled speakers and I seem to remember them being CL80s that were somehow "treated" by THD. I know Bogner used to sell their big 2x12 loaded with a V30 and CL80 so that could be the combination for you.

My favorite combination with a Vintage 30 is by far is a H30.

Hi gentlemen! Been a long time since I have been around. Been playing a lot of drums and keys for various bands. Lately I have jumped back into guitar and even picked up a new LP Traditional that I love! Also bought a used Mesa Boogie Royal Atlantic. I am using an older Marshall 412 with V30s and Greenbacks and I dug out my old THD 212 because the Marshall is killing my back. I am still not thrilled about the CL80 Longhorns because they are dark with my amps, I also have an older Shiva head.

I was thinking of trying some WGS speakers. A favorite Celestion combo for me has been H30/V30 so I was going to order a WGS Vet 30 or Retro 30 and a Reaper 50. Alternatively maybe the Reaper 50 and ET65.

WGS really recommends the Vet30/ET65 mix and the Reaper50/Retro30 pair.

Can't forget the Celestion Vintage 30 and Mesa C-90.

Gents?

I'm pretty happy with my THD cabs as is. I'm not really a Vintage 30 fan. I had a few cabs before getting the THD stuff, and I was never crazy about them. I also have a Vintage 30 in my Orange combo, but I prefer to use it with an extension cab that doesn't have V30s.

Same thing here. I had the cab with the CL80s and wish I had not sold it. Great cab.

I have the same cab, the THD. I found the CL80s too transparent and clear. I prefer a WGS ET65/Reaper50 or ET65/Retro 30!

My THD had a couple of V30's in it when I got it. The mids on the V30's were great for solos, but I couldn't bond with them for rythym at all. Traded them for a couple of CL80's and like the cab much more now. I do have a GK-100 that I am thinking of throwing in there with the CL80, but I haven't gotten around to that yet.

V30s are my favorite all-around do it all speaker. With my amps, the V30s are near perfect, big, rich, smooth, full, punchy, articulate, fat, amazing rhythm tones and great lead tones, and stunning cleans. My rhythm tones with the V30 and my PWE Event Horizon are massive! :D

I totally see why people love V30's. I've just grown accustomed to my 30 watt Greenbacks in my 4 X 12 and really like the way they sound. The V30 is a much different sounding speaker and just not what I was looking for. I did mix one V30 with the GK-100 in the THD but did not care for that either. To be fair, the 100 wasn't broken in yet so that was probably part of the issue.

The THD cab was wired at 16 ohms when I got it so I did run it in conjuction with my 4 X 12 when the V 30's were in there. They did balance and complement each other well, but wasn't enough for me to want to swap out a couple Greenbacks in my 4 X 12. I can see why a popular combo in a 2 X 12 is a V30 and a H30.

V30/H30 is my favorite combination of speakers. Do not have THD cab....

Problem with the V30/H30 is the H30 can't handle much power. I would not trust one in a cab with my 50 watters. I use 212 cabs so no H30! ;)

Mt THD has G12K-100s which remind me of high powered H30s, my Bogner has V30s and it rocks and my Stone Age is getting Lynchbacks for now.

It is rated at 30 watts .... so the cab with a V30/H30 could handle(be rated at) 60 watts. In general most guitar speakers can handle double what they are rated at. But the life of the speaker is much shorter ... this means you could run 120 watts into the cab and you would not be likely to blow a speaker.

The only reason I would worry would be if I was boosting the front of the amp a lot .... or if I cranked (dime) the amp most of the time. But in general I use double or more what the amp is rated .... 50 watt amp and 100 watt cab (or more) ....

I have a pair of G12K-100(85's ~the old name) here and they have a lot less midrange in the tonal balance. They also have a lot more bass and the break up is pretty different...the 100's do not break up much in comparison.

All this stuff is only taste ... personally I would feel fine using any speaker mentioned on this thread with any decent amp & guitar. I am good with about any rig ... but have my preferences.
