Hi Guys

Recieved my brand new columbus today off sevenstringer from the board (great guy, amazing to deal with!!)

I'll be running a tc g sharp in the loop till i decide i need something more than that. All i want to know is how i set it up (including the type of cable 5/7 pin midi?xlr?) so i can make a bunch of presets that are easily recalled for example

imagine these numbers as they appear on the columbus
1 - channel 1 with chorus and delay
2 - channel 2 without fx
3 - channel 2 with verb
4 - channel 3 no fx
etcetc

Trust me when i say i went deep into the search function and couldnt find a description of what i need.

my setup is simple

guitar>peterson strobostomp 2>mxr smartgate>herbert>tc g sharp in loop

Hope someone can help me.

Thanks

Chris

What I do:

With kind permission from Matt aka mhenson42:
Out the switchable loop send and into the Xpression input, then out Xpression output and into the Herbert parallel return. That way I get the benefit of the mix feature of the parallel loop but it is now switchable.

So, set it up this way. Power all parts up. Step on the first button of the Columbus and see what the display of the TC does - should switch to a patch. Now select the patch you want, store it on the TC and then press store on the Herbie once and then once more. Switch to the next button on the Columbus, then switch back to the first one to check if it worked. Continue with the other presets you wanna store.

I'm pretty sure that's how it would work with a TC too...

Scott thanks man

Do you connect your columbus with an xlr or midi? Also do i only need to go from the midi thru on the herbert to the midi input on the tc? This is my first ever experience of midi and i wanna make sure i buy the correct cables. Should i buy a midi lead to go from columbus to herbie or go with an xlr?

Chris

Go with the XLR from the Columbus to the Herbie. That way you can use the phantom power. Much nicer.

As for the cables I use for the MIDI stuff: It's just the basic MIDI cables you can buy anywhere in music stores, nothing special. You may want to check the jacks on the Herbie and the TC and write down the exact way they look - just to be sure...I do remember there were different cables when I bought mine, so that's what I did.

Again, go from the switchable loop send of the Herbie and into the TC input, then out the TC output and into the Herbert parallel return. :)

so now we've got the audio cables sorted, i need to know the following:-

to simply control the tc do i only need one midi lead to go from the herberts midi thru to the tc's midi in? any help would be wicked guys.

^ that's all you do. Columbus to Herbert via XLR, Herbert midi-thru to TC via regular 5 pin midi cable. I'm going back to a TC G-sharp (used to have one) from my rocktron xpression because I want something easier to make changes on the fly. I get it today. The TC is not MIDI mapable though so pressing 0 on the columbus will always change the TC to preset 1, pressing 1 on the columbus will always change the TC to preset 2, etc. Other more advanced units with midi mapping give you the flexiblity to route any button on the footswitch to any patch on the FX unit.

Scott - that's not my secret in hooking up the unit in the loop. Someone else on the board told me about it but I don't remember who. ;)

I didn't think it was a secret - just didn't wanna look like I was giving original advice. :)
