It has been sometime now but story's about motorized pots was interesting.

I think this will never happen because people tend to use crappy power amps so Peter does not want his name associated with a possibly bad sounding pre/power amp combo.

Or at least I remember hearing something like this.

unless of course he offers a killer Rack Mount Power Amp to compliment the pre. 180 Watts per side sounds about right...tube, bias points, I could go on but would be happy with anything the master crafts.

Right, but I've heard people make other Diezel heads sound like complete ass. This is true of any gear. Also, most people who know what a Diezel product is probably have the common sense to hook up a good pre to a good power section.

IMO, that would be a very stupid reason for Peter not to build a pre. But I know he's a busy and brilliant guy and probably working on something killer as we speak. (Be it a head, bass cab, toaster with midi switching, or what have you. ;) )

I have to agree with glassjaw - i almost was steered away from buying the VH4 from just how many horrendous clips/vids of it I caught on the internet (namely youtube, sure i can listen past the youtube compression etc but there's some HORRIBLE diezel tones out there - user error ofcourse :D ) - ridiculously glad I got my VH4 though. Sounds better than any clip I've ever heard. Of any amp really. Fullstop.

A rackmount preamp would be extremely interesting though. I mess around with alot of direct recording/cab impulse stuff recording late at night with my VH4 and a rackmount preamp would be fantastic in my recording rack!

Although a cheaper alternative for me would be to actually figure out how I could get signal out of my fxloop send while the amp is on standby (like my JVM). Not trying to hijack the thread here but I don't suppose there's a mod for this is there?

Im ready and waiting to add it in to the rig!..Bring it!!!! Theres always someone who'll buy!!

Even if he did people are cheap bastards and will still go with a crappy poweramp.

Dont get me wrong I really want to see rack mount Diezel stuff just as much as you do but Peter has a point in regards to people using crappy power amps.

Ya know, imo if you were to take the time to demo a Diezel preamp, fall in love with it, and then be dumb enough not to match with a great sounding poweramp I think you DESERVE to sound shitty... Er,, ymmv of course! :gethim:

I agree! But imho the major problem would be the OTHER people, noticing the "Diezel" unit, and because of the overall shitty sound they conclude that the Diezel Pre would be responsible for that.

Remember: Its always the most expensive unit responsible for EVERYTHING! :D   at least in the mind of many "musicians", they dont even think about anything else - let alone its THEMSELVES.

As this guy years ago on a german board, mentioning that he bought a Herbert and is quite happy, but needs an additional EQ unit to make it sound real good. The pics he provided then showed the real problem - Ladies and Gents, please have a look at THIS!

(its in german, but the pics say mroe than words)

Well, after reading this, I think that if I saw a band in which the guitarist had shitty tone and I saw a Diezel logo in his rig, I might wonder what the hell was wrong with the rig. I guess I can see that side of it, but I still hope we see a Diezel pre someday.

Oh, and as far as THIS goes, what the hell?!?! You gotta wonder what the hell some people are thinking sometimes...A Diezel needs NOTHING to sound stellar. IMO, you can plug straight into a Diezel amp and get the tone that people pay producers and engineers many thousands of dollars to achieve with inferior amps.

I am sure the "this" rack helps them do something ? ;) Not really sure what ?

Stephen, good to see You here !
Hope You are in good condition

I am fine .... hope all is well for you also Peter.

Anything new you can tell all of us in the future of your great amps ?

Unfortunately it comes down to people having more money than common sense. Diezel has a reputation for being a great metal amp, and if Peter started making rack mounted stuff of course people are gonna match a beautiful sounding preamp with the cheapest S.S. poweramp they can find, and then wont be able to figure out why there "Diezel" sounds like shit!  I was just at the NY amp show this past weekend and there were not many "metal" amps there to be honest. Every discussion I had when I brought up Diezel, whether you love them or hate them, is the H U G E, tight bottom end these amps have. As big as it can get, if you dial them in correctly they will never get flubby. Not many amps on the market can compare to that, and that seemed to be the conclusion from most of the amp builders I spoke too, regardless if they like the tone or not. I think Peter could really benefit with a rack mounted Poweramp at first. I certainly think it would put Diezel into the hands of guys who otherwise would steer away from them. Hell, I know a few guys who use the CAE pre's and are constantly bringing their rigs down to our studio to jam thru my Diezels return.

Absolutely. The poweramp would be as important to the live sounds as the preamp.
