Hi, Im new here
I just bought a cameron aldrich and Im wondering about speakers
from what little Ive read I gather celestion g12 h30 are a popular choice for use with these amps

but... I would like to know if anyone has tried celestion gt12 75 speakers with their cameron aldrich with favourable results

I use Weber 1225 pre-rola clones in Bogner Cabs with my Camerons. Anniversary H30's & Heritage GB25's also sound really good as well with Camerons.....

I use 25's, 30's, 65's and 75's. I prefer 30's, but they all have their place. Please note that all of my speakers are originals, so when I say 30's I mean 70's Celestions, not the new stuff.

cheers ....
your you tube clips especially the one with the cat and gallbladder are one of the main things that convinced me I should buy the amp, the other one was darr cooper..

thanks

To me , the aldrich is brighter then the Jose. To me a mix of CL80 & H30 anniversaries sound best. They really work well together. That's what i run in my marshall 4x12 and my cameron 4x12

Hi...
what are CL80 ? are they celestions

at this point because its all I have Im using one or two evm 12L from boogies, I didnt think they would work but they sound pretty good ,huge bottom end and very smooth

but.... I need a marshall cab of some sort, Ive owned plenty of marshall cabs over the years so I have some idea of what the differences are but but so far only tried one with 30 watt blackbacks with the cameron

I think im leaning towards something with higher power rating than 25-30 , I fancy trying g12 65 or gt12 75

I havent heard a jose but Ive played through a cameron ccv which I believe is closer to the jose than the aldrich and I think your right the aldrich is brighter as well other differences

but thats what I like about it ,the ccv is killer but.... I heard the aldrich and and I was convinced it was more to my taste

mind you I wouldnt kick a ccv out of bed either

Currently, with my Mark C. Low Gain "Jose" modded 4-hole 50 watter, I prefer the G12-65s (original issues circa 1982) in a slant 4 x 12; G12Ms (original issues) in a battered early 70's 4 x 12 straight cab and the Lead 80 (clone) in a Marshall-style open back 1 x 12 cab.

I would like to try a"true" Celestion Lead 80 or two/four of them in the 1x, 2x or 4 x 12 cabs.

Way back when, I had V-30s and G12H-30s in the slant cab in an X pattern, but it didn't sound that great at the time and seemed to have a bit too much sizzle. I think a cab with 4 G12Hs would have sounded better. V-30s are not my cup of tea and since I don't really play super heavy, detuned shit or metal, the 25, 65 and 80 versions are good for me.

The mix of Lead 80s and G12H-30s also sounds like a good choice.... The problem is, you have to either know someone to borrow their cab, or you end up buying all the fucking speakers and find out they're not "your" thing.... then you try to sell ot trade those.... etc.

I do not dig the G12-75s with the Cameron mod amps. too scooped-sounding and harsh on the high end to me. The Cameron mods have such awesome mids, why chose a loudspeaker (or a mid-scooped EQ setting) to strip them away too much?

I have an '81 JMP Mk II Master Lead 100 head that has a few minor mods (wired a parallel resistor on the channel input to up the gain, depth and soundstage) and it sounds killer thru either 4 x 12, but especially the G12M cab. Playing most rock music, I think you can get away with a 100 or 120 watt cab (G12M or G12H-30s) unless you require punishing volume or a super-tight and "moderne" Euro-Trash metal tone.

Different cabs may also make the speakers you try sound different. And it all depends on your ears, gain/EQ/master settings and axes for that matter..... OK, I'll shut up now....

I have two preferences for my Cameron amps. 1-cab loaded with two Scumback m-75 65 watters and two h-75 65 watters in an x-pattern. this is basically a h-30 and greenback cab but with the late sixties vibe going on. this is my favorite cab with the Camerons and then 2nd up is a cab with all greenbacks loaded in it.

Thanks for everyones replies

Its interesting and helpful to see people are having success with a variety of speakers,
Im a long time marshall user so ive got an idea what the different speaker characteristics are
but having never tried them with a cameron its still tricky

I have a line on a cab loaded with g12 65 which I think im going to go for...

Hey Ian,

I have owned 3 different Cameron modded Marshalls over the last 4 years. Aldrich mods, HG Jose mods etc. For me, they sounded best with G12H30's. But the G12-65's definitely sound great, and so do 25w Greenbacks (reissues or originals).

I tried all 3 Camerons with 75watt Celestions and i actually HATED the tone. To the point where i thought at first there was something wrong with the amp.. but then i realised it sounded that bad with all 3 Camerons so it had to be the 75watters causing it! Tried several different 75w speaker loaded cabs too, just be sure it wasnt my cab being the problem, and it happened the same with all the 75w speaker loaded cabs!
That goes for just about every modded Marshall i have used, even ones modded by other techs and my own mods.

Definitely G12H30's, Greenbacks, G12-65's or older broken in V30's for me. Cant go wrong with any of those choices when using a Cameron modded Marshall!

Man, I am sorry I missed this post Super. This cab and speaker set up CAN NOT BE BEAT! Dude, trust me... Call Jim at southbay ampworks and get yourself some speakers from him. It will be the best move ya ever made. This set up gives you soo much more, it is hard to describe. I love the greenbacks, but in an exact similiar cab when you run the greenbacks then run the cab with the x-pattern scumbacks. :D :D < Is what you will be doing.
