Speaker cone cleaning?

I have taken the speakers out of my G-Flex cab so I can paint the face of the cab, and noticed the speakers are quite dirty.
I tried wiping with a dry cloth to no avail, and was wondering if there is anything safe to use to clean speaker cones?

I usually spray em with compressed air. I try not to handle the cone at all.

Compressed air did nothing. A dry rag wouldn't even get it clean.

if a dry rag wont work id leave it alone. I cant see how using any liquid on a cone could be safe.

I was kinda thinking the same thing, but my curiosity was piqued when the dry rag didn't do anything. Just got me wondering if there was a trick I didn't know about. :D

Thanks for the advice either way!

hmmm  heres an idea:

get a piece of tape, the less sticky the better, and gently dab the surface of the speaker with the sticky side removing any lint, dust on the surface.

(you don't want it to adhere to the cone surface and then rip a layer of paper off so no super sticky duct tape and don't press down too hard)

Not a bad idea, but honestly it's not so important to me that I would risk the speaker in any way. Eminence speakers are not cheap.

I've hooked the "soft brush" up to my vacuum head and, very carefully, rubbed speakers down with it and it seems to do the trick - but ya gotsta be gentle and very careful not to get too close to an airtight suck or it'll damage the cone.

V.

PS - I've also used this trick to re-construct pushed in centre pieces of cones...it pops 'em back out like nobody's business, but there's a split second once re-popped that you have to remove the vacuum otherwise the cap tears off.

just wack the head up to 11 :P and shake that mother fucking dust of! ahahaha

Well, it's all back together and I will be at the studio tonight. I will crank it up to test your theory and report back tomorrow, unless my ears are bleeding in which case I might be at the emergency room. :D
