I bought a Redback off of Reverb and after installing the speaker had a nasty high pitched rattle. I took it out of the cab and laid it down facing up and when I hit some low notes I can see the dust cap has a separation where it should be glued. Is that something a tech needs to do? What kind of glue is used on speakers?

Some say superglue. I would use the gel sparingly.

Others say Aleene's tacky glue. It's an all purpose craft glue.

There are speaker recone places online that sell exactly the right glue (and dustcaps if you need one) for various brands of speakers, I fixed a few Greenbacks I bought this way. Super easy.

The dust cap is still on pretty tight, only comes loose with some volume and bottom end. Do I use a razor blade to lift the cap so I can get some glue in?

I would not use a razor blade. Use a toothpick, an index or business card. Bend a corner or carefully break the toothpick end and use either to gently lift.

Easy fix. Get some white Elmer's glue, and two toothpicks. Lift the dust cap where it's separated with one, then put a small drop of glue on the end of the other toothpick and place it on the old glue line where it's loose. After that place a couple of heavy metal washers or some heavy coins on the top the dust cap to hold it down in the glue. After 5-6 hours of drying you should be good to go.

Yes, I've done this several times to old Celestions to fix this exact problem. Good luck!

Put a shot glass upside down on the cap with the speaker facing up after gluing.

Do not do this.

It will distort the dust cap out of round if it's too heavy. All you need is 3-4 quarters placed on the lip of the dust cap where it came loose.

Here's how I weight down a new large dust cap. Small dust caps are the same. If you repair yours with the toothpick/Elmer's glue method, you can weight down the loose edges on the dust cap lip by leaning them towards the dust cap so they stick up almost vertical.
